In the MW4 beta, a Nuke took a 30-kill streak without dying. Beta coverage says only gun, equipment and Field Upgrade kills counted, so kills from your other Killstreaks did not help. The Nuke was not equipped in a Killstreak slot. Calling it in ended the match as a win for your team. Activision has not published the rules for the full game.

How many kills for a Nuke in MW4
Thirty, in one life. esports.gg’s beta guide from August 21, 2026 and Insider Gaming’s beta Killstreak list from the same day both give 30 kills. The community-run Call of Duty Wiki lists the same number for MW4.

Because the streak resets when you die, staying alive matters more the closer you get. One death ends the attempt, and the counter starts again at zero.

No, going by the beta. esports.gg says only gun, equipment and Field Upgrade kills add to the 30, so an Attack Helicopter or Missile Salvo cannot carry you there. In the 2009 Modern Warfare 2, streak kills did count, which is why that game’s Nukes were easier to stack.
That means the usual plan is to build a class around staying alive. Pick Perks and Equipment that keep you hidden and healthy, rather than chasing big Killstreaks to farm kills.
Do Smartstreaks help you get a Nuke?
MW4 adds Smartstreaks. Activision’s August 2026 multiplayer deep dive says Killstreaks “now reward both kills and objective play”. Kills remain the main driver, but capturing objectives also fills your streak meter. Our list of all 17 MW4 killstreaks has the kill cost of each one.
Whether that objective progress also counts toward the Nuke has not been confirmed. The deep dive does not mention the Nuke at all. The beta guides describe the Nuke as a kill count, so plan on needing 30 actual kills until the launch rules say otherwise.
The same blog says Killstreaks are now part of each loadout. MW4 has 17 Killstreaks, and 10 of them were in the beta. You choose three per class. In the beta, the Nuke sat outside those three.
What happens when you call in a Nuke in MW4
In the beta, the match ended right away and the caller’s team won. Both beta guides agree on that, and it matches how the Nuke worked in earlier Modern Warfare games. Activision has not confirmed it for the full game.
The cutscene is new, and Activision’s own MW4 multiplayer trailer from August 19, 2026 shows it near the end (2:42 to 2:46). The caller pulls a release cord, is lifted high above the base, and watches the warhead go off in the distance.
The community-run Call of Duty Wiki adds detail from beta footage: the caller is hooked to a balloon and pulled away by a C-17 cargo plane, and other players get a separate view. The plane and the other players’ view are the wiki’s description; the trailer does not show them.
What to check when MW4 launches on October 23
Multiplayer opens on October 23, according to our MW4 release date guide. Beta rules often change before launch, so check these on day one:
- Is it still 30 kills, or did the number move?
- Does Smartstreak objective progress count toward the Nuke?
- Does the Hardline Perk lower the Nuke cost? Not confirmed.
- Does the Nuke unlock a calling card or camo? Not confirmed.
If you are looking for a Nuke in Warzone, that is a different system. The Warzone Nuke contract comes from the Champion’s Quest, not from a 30-kill streak.

How many kills is a Nuke in Modern Warfare 4?
Thirty in a row without dying, according to beta coverage from esports.gg and Insider Gaming. Activision has not published an official number.
Do I need to equip the Nuke?
No. In the beta, the Nuke was not one of your three Killstreak slots. Any player who reached 30 kills in a row could call it in.
Do kills from Killstreaks count toward a Nuke in MW4?
Not in the beta. Only gun, equipment and Field Upgrade kills counted, according to esports.gg.
Does objective play count toward the Nuke?
Not confirmed. Smartstreaks let objective play fill your normal Killstreak meter, but Activision has not said whether that applies to the Nuke.
Does a Nuke end the match in MW4?
Yes. In the beta, calling in the Nuke ended the match as a win for the caller’s team.
