The Helldivers 2 max level is 300, not 150. Arrowhead raised the cap with the Devoid of Liberty update on August 12, 2026. Level 150 takes 1,168,000 XP in total; level 300 takes 11,080,000, about 9.5 times as much. At 1,500 XP per mission, that works out to roughly 780 missions to reach 150 and about 7,400 to reach 300.
Levels in Helldivers 2 are only one of the progress tracks. Difficulty decides how much every mission pays, so the difficulty tiers are the companion topic to this page. Below: the cap and how it changed, the XP table totals, how many missions and hours that really means, where mission XP comes from, and what levels actually unlock.
What is the max level in Helldivers 2?
The cap is 300. It has been raised twice since launch. Arrowhead’s own level cap announcement from August 6, 2026 lays out the history: level 50 at launch, tripled to 150 in April 2024, then doubled to 300. The change went live in patch 1.007.000, and the Devoid of Liberty 7.0.0 patch notes say it added 15 new ranks and titles between 150 and 300.
If you hit 150 before the patch and kept playing, you did not lose anything. Arrowhead says the game kept every point of XP earned past the old cap. When the new cap went live, it recalculated your total against the new level table and moved you straight to the matching level. The same thing happened when the cap went from 50 to 150.

How much XP it takes to reach level 150 and level 300
We did not find an official XP table from Arrowhead. The totals below come from the community-run Helldivers Wiki level table, which lists the XP needed for all 300 levels. We checked that each level’s total plus its “XP to advance” equals the next level’s total, and all 299 steps add up.
| Level | Title | Total XP | XP to the next level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | Space Chief Prime | 35,900 | 2,500 |
| 30 | Death Captain | 50,400 | 3,000 |
| 50 | Skull Admiral | 133,400 | 5,500 |
| 100 | Hell Commander | 521,500 | 10,500 |
| 150 | Super Private | 1,168,000 | 16,000 |
| 200 | Ranger, Bald Eagle Class | 2,797,000 | 50,000 |
| 250 | Master Divemaster | 6,101,000 | 83,500 |
| 300 | Rank 300 | 11,080,000 | – (cap) |
The curve bends sharply at 150. Below it, the XP for each level grows slowly: level 149 to 150 costs 15,000. Above it, the steps get steep fast, and the last level, 299 to 300, costs 116,000. A wiki editor’s analysis on the same page puts it simply: below 150, a level costs roughly 100 × the level number in XP, and above 150 the slope is much steeper.
That makes the second half of the track the real grind. Levels 150 to 300 need 9,912,000 XP, about 8.5 times everything it took to get from 1 to 150. Those two ratios are our arithmetic from the table.

How long it takes to reach max level in Helldivers 2
There is no official hours figure. Arrowhead only says that reaching 150 takes “several hundreds of missions”, and that 300 will take “more than double” that. The XP table shows the second part is an understatement: 300 needs about 9.5 times the XP of 150. So the honest way to answer is a formula, then the numbers players report.
The formula: total XP ÷ your XP per mission
XP per mission is not fixed. It depends on difficulty and on how much of the map you clear (see the next section). This table divides the wiki totals by three per-mission averages. The 1,000, 1,500 and 1,900 figures are the ones players quote in the community threads below. The mission counts are our own arithmetic, rounded.
| Average XP per mission | Missions to 150 | Missions from 150 to 300 | Missions to 300 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 1,168 | 9,912 | 11,080 |
| 1,500 | 779 | 6,608 | 7,387 |
| 1,900 | 615 | 5,217 | 5,832 |
Turn that into hours with your own mission length. Two worked examples, both our estimates: at 1,900 XP in 14-minute missions, 150 takes about 144 hours of mission time and 300 about 1,361. At 1,500 XP in 30-minute missions, 150 takes about 390 hours and 300 about 3,694. Neither counts time in menus or on the ship.
What players report
The figures in this part come from players on the official Steam discussion boards, not from Arrowhead. They were all posted while the cap was still 150.
- In a September 2025 thread asking how long level 150 took, answers ranged from about 200 hours to about 800. Several players put it at 350 to 450 hours, and one said 300 to 450 hours playing mostly difficulty 9 and 10.
- In the same thread, one player estimated about 1,500 XP and 30 minutes per mission on average. Another said difficulty 8 missions gave them around 1,000 XP. That poster also gave 1,148,400 XP as the total for level 150, which does not match the wiki table’s 1,168,000; we use the wiki figure.
- In an April 2024 thread, a level 132 player reported 1,800 to 1,900 XP from full-clear difficulty 9 Blitz missions of about 14 minutes including extraction, levelling up every 7 to 8 missions. Their 13,500 XP per level matches the wiki table at level 132.
The spread is wide because people play differently, not because anyone is wrong. If you know your own hours to 150, the table gives a quick rule: at the same pace, 300 takes about 9.5 times as long in total.
How XP works in Helldivers 2 and how to level up faster
These numbers come from the Helldivers Wiki’s level and missions pages, which document what the end-of-mission screen pays out. They are base values, before difficulty is applied:
- Main objective: 100 XP each.
- Optional (tactical) objectives: 50 XP each, and up to five can spawn on a map. The Destroy High-Value Target objective pays 222 XP instead.
- Extraction: 20 XP for every Helldiver who makes it onto the shuttle, so a full squad of four extracting adds 80.
- Time left: the percentage of the mission timer remaining turns into XP. With 50% left, you get 50.
- Enemy bases: nests, outposts and encampments pay 5 (small), 10 (medium), 20 (large) or 40 (mega nest or fortress).
After the mission, the total is multiplied by the difficulty bonus. The wiki says this happens whether the mission succeeded or failed, and objective XP does not need a successful extraction.
| Difficulty | XP bonus | Total multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Trivial, 2 Easy | +0% | ×1 |
| 3 Medium | +25% | ×1.25 |
| 4 Challenging | +50% | ×1.5 |
| 5 Hard | +75% | ×1.75 |
| 6 Extreme | +100% | ×2 |
| 7 Suicide Mission | +150% | ×2.5 |
| 8 Impossible | +200% | ×3 |
| 9 Helldive | +250% | ×3.5 |
| 10 Super Helldive | +300% | ×4 |

A worked example to show how the pieces add up (our numbers, not a typical mission): one main objective (100), three optional objectives (150), four Helldivers extracting (80), 30% of the timer left (30) and two large nests (40) make 400 base XP. On Super Helldive that becomes 1,600; on Extreme, 800.
So the rules reward three things. Higher difficulty multiplies everything. Optional objectives and enemy bases add most of the base XP beyond the main objective. And getting the whole squad out adds a little on top. What the wiki does not tell you is XP per hour on each difficulty, since a harder mission can also take longer. We have not seen a reliable comparison of that, so we are not naming a single fastest difficulty.
Missions pay out other currencies at the same time, so levelling and farming overlap. Medals also scale with difficulty, as covered in how to farm Medals. Super Credits are different: Arrowhead’s July 2026 Super Credits post describes earning them by clearing points of interest and looting on the map, not from levels. That route is in how to farm Super Credits.
What levelling up unlocks in Helldivers 2
Less than the number 300 suggests. According to the wiki’s level table, early levels give access to stratagems, which you then buy with Requisition Slips. Weapon attachments open at level 10, the two Exosuits and the M-102 Gunner FRV arrive at level 25, and the last reward on the table is the TD-220 Bastion MK XVI at level 30. Arrowhead’s announcement says the gear that “actually matter[s]” is unlocked by around level 25.
After level 30, levels only give titles. You earn a new title every 5 levels up to 50, then every 10 levels. That is 21 titles up to Super Private at level 150, plus the 15 added with the 300 cap, ending with a title that is simply “Rank 300”. Each title comes with a rank icon, and you can equip titles under Armory, then Character, then Title.
So chasing 300 is a prestige goal. Arrowhead calls it “a marathon–not a sprint”. If you only want the full stratagem list, the job is done at level 30, which is 50,400 XP, about 4% of the XP to 150.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Helldivers 2 max level 150 or 300?
300. The cap went from 150 to 300 in patch 1.007.000, the Devoid of Liberty update, on August 12, 2026. Older guides that say 150 were written before that.
Did I lose the XP I earned after reaching level 150?
No. Arrowhead says XP earned past the old cap was saved, and the game recalculated your level when the new cap went live.
Does anything unlock after level 30?
Only titles and rank icons. The wiki’s level table lists no gear rewards after the TD-220 Bastion at level 30.
Do you get XP if the mission fails or you don’t extract?
Yes, for what you completed. The wiki says XP is tallied and multiplied whether the mission succeeds or fails, and objective XP does not need extraction. Only the 20 XP per extracted Helldiver depends on getting out.
Which difficulty gives the most XP per hour?
Not confirmed. Super Helldive has the biggest multiplier at +300%, but we have not seen a reliable per-hour comparison across difficulties.
Will the level cap go above 300?
Not confirmed. Arrowhead has not announced another increase.
