To max all 7 skills in GTA Online, train each one directly. By the GTA Wiki’s rates: a Flight School gold adds 3–5% Flying, a Shooting Range gold 3% Shooting, 20 punches 1% Strength, 40 yards of stealth walking 1% Stealth, each second airborne 1% Driving, each minute underwater 1% Lung Capacity. Stamina comes from sprinting, cycling and swimming.
Skills are your character’s stats in GTA Online, shown as bars from 0 to 100% in the pause menu. There are seven you can train: Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving and Lung Capacity. They are tracked separately from your rank: the GTA Wiki lists only activities, not RP, as ways to raise them. If rank is what you are after, see our guide on how to rank up fast in GTA Online.
Rockstar does not publish skill rates. The per-action numbers below come from the community-run GTA Wiki skills page, checked on October 2, 2026. The time estimates in the last column come from player reports, not from Rockstar or the wiki, and are marked as such.
How to max each GTA Online skill: methods and rates
The times below count from 0%. Your character may start above zero, so the time you have left will usually be lower.
| Skill | Best-documented method | Rate (GTA Wiki) | 0 to 100% at that rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stamina | Sprint on flat ground | Rises with running, swimming and cycling | About 3 hours 20 minutes of sprinting (single community source, see below) |
| Shooting | Ammu-Nation Shooting Range challenges | +3% per gold, +2% silver, +1% bronze | Depends on medals; also rises from hits and headshots |
| Strength | Punching NPCs | +1% per 20 punches landed | 2,000 punches |
| Stealth | Walking in stealth mode; stealth takedowns | +1% per 40 yards; +1.5% per two takedowns | About 4,000 yards of stealth walking |
| Flying | Flight School gold medals, then time in the air | +3% to 5% per gold; +1% per 10 minutes flying | Up to 1,000 minutes of flying with no medals |
| Driving | Stunt Jumps and long jumps | +1% per second airborne; about +2–3% per successful Stunt Jump | About 100 seconds of air time |
| Lung Capacity | Swimming underwater | +1% per minute underwater | About 100 minutes underwater (disputed, see below) |
The last column is simple arithmetic on the wiki’s rates, not a timed test. Real sessions take longer because of travel, loading and the moments you are not actually training.
How to max Flying fast: Flight School first
Flying controls how easily you take off, land and handle turbulence. It is the slowest skill to raise by just playing: the wiki puts it at 1% per 10 minutes of flying, which is nearly 17 hours from zero.
The shortcut is the San Andreas Flight School at Los Santos International Airport. According to the GTA Wiki’s Flight School page, GTA Online has ten solo lessons, unlocked at rank 6, and each gold medal adds 3% to 5% Flying. Ten golds therefore cover roughly 30% to 50% of the bar. The lessons also pay up to 13,950 RP and $232,500 for first-time golds on all ten, which makes them worth doing anyway.

For the rest of the bar, players report their own shortcuts. In a June 2017 Steam discussion, players recommended repeating the Ground Level low-flying lesson, and the original poster said they went from 80 to 100 in about 20 minutes by repeatedly climbing and descending in a plane. That is a single community source, and whether repeat golds keep paying the 3–5% is Not confirmed. A 2021 community guide by Leo3418 notes that the Oppressor Mk II does not count toward Flying, because the game treats it as a motorcycle.
How to max Strength fast in GTA Online
Strength raises melee damage, speeds up ladder climbing and reduces damage taken. The wiki’s rate is 1% for every 20 punches you land, so 0 to 100% is 2,000 punches. Sports also raise it, but the wiki gives no rate for them.
The problem is finding enough targets without picking up a wanted level. Community guides suggest doing it inside a Contact Mission. Screen Rant recommends a mission where the police do not show up, then fist-fighting people at the Pier. Leo3418 names Gerald’s mission Pier Pressure and suggests trapping NPCs inside the Vanilla Unicorn to punch them. The GTA Wiki lists Pier Pressure as a 1–4 player job at Del Perro Pier, unlocked at rank 6. The no-police claim comes from those guides, not from the wiki.

GTA V Skills MaxedIf you'd rather not grind it: Strength alone is 2,000 punches and Flying up to 1,000 minutes in the air. From $5.90View offerHow long it takes to max Stamina and Lung Capacity
The time estimates in this section come from community players, not from Rockstar.
Stamina
Stamina sets how long you can run, swim or cycle at full speed. The wiki says that once it is maxed, your stamina is effectively unlimited. Its stated rate for running reads as 1% per 18 yards, which is far faster than any player reports, so we have not used it.
The Old Grumpy Gamers stamina guide timed the three options. It reports that sprinting on flat ground earned one full stamina bar in about 40 minutes, cycling about half the sprinting rate, and swimming less than that. The in-game stat shows five bars, so at that rate a full Stamina skill from zero is about 3 hours 20 minutes of sprinting. That is a single community source, so treat it as a rough guide.
Lung Capacity
Lung Capacity sets how long you can stay underwater before you start losing health. The wiki says an untrained character lasts about 15 seconds and every 20% adds 5 more, so a maxed character gets about 40 seconds. The GTA Wiki’s Skills page gives 1% per minute underwater, which implies about 100 minutes from zero, and says swimming with a Scuba Suit or Rebreather also counts. A separate GTA Wiki Statistics page says 1% per 30 seconds, so the exact current rate is disputed; the 100-minute figure follows the dedicated Skills page and one community timing report.
One community timing report lines up with that. The Old Grumpy Gamers lung capacity guide reports about 20 minutes per bar, which is the same 1% a minute. Its method is to swim just below the surface over a reef, so a short kick gets you air. Leo3418 also suggests the long swims in the Cayo Perico Heist as a way to train it while earning.

How to max Shooting, Stealth and Driving
Shooting
Shooting reduces recoil and reload time, improves accuracy and raises ammo capacity. The wiki says the Ammu-Nation Shooting Ranges in Cypress Flats and Pillbox Hill raise it by 3% for a gold medal, 2% for silver and 1% for bronze, and that hits and headshots on enemies add to it too. The wiki’s range page lists challenges for handguns, SMGs, assault rifles, shotguns, LMGs and heavy weapons, with a $14 entry fee. Leo3418 adds that the shooting range in your Bunker works as well, a single community source.
Stealth
Stealth lets you move faster and more quietly in stealth mode, and the wiki says it hides your radar blip in Deathmatches. It rises by 1% for every 40 yards walked in stealth mode and by 1.5% for every two stealth takedowns. Tapping sprint while stealth walking makes you faster but, per the wiki, does not raise the skill.
Driving
Driving makes wheelies easier and gives you more control in the air. The wiki’s rate is 1% for every second a vehicle spends airborne, plus about 2% to 3% for each successful Stunt Jump. GTA Online has the same 50 Unique Stunt Jumps as GTA V, according to the wiki’s stunt jump list. Driving clean and weaving through oncoming traffic without hitting anything also raises it.

A simple order to max all 7 skills in GTA Online
- Do all ten Flight School lessons for gold. It is the biggest single jump in any skill, and it pays RP and cash on the first golds.
- Run Ammu-Nation Shooting Range challenges for gold medals.
- Hit Stunt Jumps on a fast motorcycle on your way between jobs for Driving.
- Start Pier Pressure and punch your way to 2,000 hits for Strength.
- Swim reef laps for Lung Capacity, then sprint flat loops for Stamina. These two take the longest in real time.
- Walk in stealth mode whenever you move on foot to fill Stealth.

What is the fastest way to max skills in GTA Online?
No source has timed every method side by side. The best-documented shortcut is Flight School, where each gold medal adds 3% to 5% Flying. For the other skills, train each one directly using the rates in the table above.
Does ranking up increase skills in GTA Online?
Not according to the GTA Wiki, which lists only activities, such as flying, swimming and punching, as ways to raise each skill. Rockstar has not published the rules.
How long does it take to max Lung Capacity?
About 100 minutes underwater from zero, according to the GTA Wiki’s Skills page (1% per minute) and one community report of about 20 minutes per bar. Another GTA Wiki page gives 1% per 30 seconds, which would halve that, so the exact rate is disputed.
Does the Oppressor Mk II raise Flying?
No, according to a community guide by Leo3418: the game counts it as a motorcycle. Rockstar has not said either way.
Do skills go down if I stop playing?
Not confirmed. The GTA Wiki does not describe skill decay in GTA Online.
