How Long Is the MW4 Campaign? About 8 Hours

The Modern Warfare 4 campaign takes about eight hours on normal difficulty, according to GameSpot, across 16 missions. Other outlets put a typical playthrough at about 8 to 9 hours, or 7 to 8 when rushing, and all 18 campaign trophies or achievements take roughly 14 to 18 hours. Digital pre-order owners can play it now; everyone else gets it on October 23.

MW4 campaign length at a glance

Activision has not published an official play time. The figures below come from outlets that played the campaign after Campaign Early Access opened on October 16, 2026. They are estimates from different players, not one measured number.

The outlets disagree on the low end. Game Rant says a fast run on an easier difficulty takes 7 to 8 hours, while Destructoid gives about 9 hours even on the easiest setting. GameSpot’s estimate of around eight hours on normal sits between them, so plan for one long weekend rather than one evening.

How many missions are in the MW4 campaign?

Sixteen. Activision’s Campaign Early Access post says the story plays out “across sixteen action-packed missions” set on the Korean Peninsula and in Paris, New York and Mumbai. You play as Private Park Hyun Jun during a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula, while John Price hunts the person behind it.

Activision’s post does not list mission names. The names below come from Game Rant and Destructoid, which published the same 16 names in the same order on October 16. Mission titles are story details, but not plot spoilers.

“Entrenched” is also the campaign mission that was playable in both MW4 beta weekends in August, as Windows Central reported, so beta players have already seen part of mission 14.

What makes the MW4 campaign take longer

Three things add time, based on the outlets above:

• Difficulty. GameSpot and Destructoid both say higher difficulties take longer than their headline figure.
• Collectibles and trophies. Game Rant and Destructoid count 18 campaign trophies or achievements, and both put a full clear at 14 hours or more.
• A second run. Game Rant reports that one trophy needs a clear on Realism difficulty, which only unlocks after you finish the campaign once, and that finishing also unlocks a YOLO difficulty. This is a single media source; Activision has not described the difficulty modes.

Is the MW4 campaign worth finishing before launch?

If you play Multiplayer or DMZ, yes. Each mission feeds a reward track: eight Operators, three Double XP Tokens and two Double Weapon XP Tokens, all usable from October 23. Our MW4 campaign rewards guide lists all 16 in order.

When you can play the MW4 campaign

• From October 16, 2026: Campaign Early Access for digital pre-orders of the Standard Digital or Vault Edition on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.
