MW4 DMZ Early Access starts Tuesday, October 20, 2026, three days before Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23. It is open to anyone who digitally pre-orders or pre-purchases the Standard Digital Edition or the Vault Edition on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, Steam or Nintendo Switch 2. Activision has not published a start hour.
Activision confirmed DMZ Early Access on October 9 in its DMZ Deep Dive, Part 2. Before that announcement, Early Access had been confirmed for the Campaign only. For the mode itself, see our Modern Warfare 4 DMZ overview.
MW4 DMZ Early Access dates and schedule
| Date | What opens | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday, October 15, 2026, 9 AM PT | PC preload | Digital pre-purchases on PC |
| Friday, October 16, 2026 | Campaign Early Access | Digital pre-orders and pre-purchases |
| Tuesday, October 20, 2026 | DMZ Early Access | Digital pre-orders and pre-purchases |
| Friday, October 23, 2026 | Full launch | Everyone who owns the game |
The October 20 and October 16 dates come from the DMZ blog. The PC preload hour comes from Activision’s September 29 PC blog, which says preloading “on PC only” begins October 15 at 9 AM PT; no console preload date has been published. Activision gives no hour for either Early Access window, and its footnote says start dates may differ by time zone and are subject to change, so we have not converted October 20 into other time zones.
Who gets MW4 DMZ Early Access
Per the blog, Early Access to all of DMZ goes to players who have “digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased” Modern Warfare 4. It applies to both editions:
- Standard Digital Edition
- Vault Edition
The listed platforms are Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement names only digital pre-orders and pre-purchases; it does not say whether physical pre-orders qualify. Our Standard vs Vault edition guide covers what else each edition includes.
MW4 Standard Edition Steam AccountSteam is one of the listed platforms, and the Standard Digital Edition qualifies for DMZ Early Access from October 20.From $44.90View offer
What you can do in DMZ Early Access
The blog says Early Access covers “all of DMZ.” Activision has not said whether Multiplayer is part of any Early Access window; the announcement covers Campaign and DMZ only.
Whether progress made during DMZ Early Access carries over to launch is not confirmed in Activision’s DMZ posts. We will update this line if Activision addresses it.
FOB stations you start with and when the rest unlock
Your base between deployments is the Forward Operating Base (FOB). According to Part 2, these stations are open from the start: Operators, DMZ Orders, Stash/Loadout, Firing Range, Survival Kits, Bounty Leaderboard, DMZ Progression and Deploy. The rest unlock as you play:
| FOB station | Unlocks at |
|---|---|
| 3D Printer | DMZ Player Level 2 |
| Boss Board | After your second DMZ Order |
| Vendor | DMZ Player Level 5 |
| Gunsmith | DMZ Player Level 10 |
| Dog Tag Case | DMZ Player Level 20 |
DMZ has its own progression track from level 1 to 70, separate from the standard level 1 to 55 player progression.
How to level faster in your first DMZ sessions
Activision’s DMZ Deep Dive, Part 1 names two of the most reliable sources of DMZ XP:
- DMZ Orders. These guided directives are called among the most reliable ways to advance your DMZ level while building your Stash.
- Looting. Searching containers is called one of the most reliable ways to earn DMZ XP and progress your FOB.
The same post advises a balance of combat, looting and objectives, aiming for an S-Tier rating at the end of each deployment rather than looting alone.

Vault Edition: an extra Active Duty Operator slot
One DMZ difference between the editions is spelled out in Part 2. Everyone starts with two Active Duty Operator slots and can unlock another by raising their DMZ level. Vault Edition owners start with three. Each Operator earns its own Trait Points, so a third slot means a third build from day one. Our DMZ Operator Prestige guide explains how those Operators level and reset.

How to get ready for October 20
- Pre-order or pre-purchase a digital edition on one of the listed platforms.
- On PC, preload from October 15 at 9 AM PT. Check that you have the drive space listed in our MW4 PC system requirements guide.
- Plan your first sessions around DMZ Orders and looting, the two XP sources Activision highlights.
For the full launch timeline, including the October 23 PC unlock at midnight local time, see our Modern Warfare 4 release date guide.
