Modern Warfare 4 Editions: Standard vs Vault, Early Access

Both digital editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 get Campaign Early Access from Friday, October 16, 2026 (PT), a week before the October 23 launch; physical discs do not (Call of Duty blog, June 12, 2026). The Vault Edition adds eight Operators, five Signature Weapons, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ Deployment Bonus on top of the Standard Edition.

Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access: October 16 for digital pre-orders

Activision confirmed the date on June 12, 2026: “Starting on Friday, October 16, players who have digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 get Early Access to the game’s Campaign.” The benefit applies to the Standard Digital Edition and the Vault Edition on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 (Call of Duty blog, June 12, 2026). Activision Support adds that early access starts October 16 Pacific Time (Activision Support, Modern Warfare 4 Editions, checked September 17, 2026).

Exact unlock time is not confirmed. Activision has published the date and the Pacific Time label only, so there is no official hour to convert into other time zones yet; this guide will add a time table once Activision posts one.

Two more rules from the same sources: the “Actual platform availability and start date subject to change” footnote applies, and physical Standard Editions are not eligible for the campaign benefit, because the Activision Support page lists Campaign Early Access under “all digital editions” only. Only Campaign Early Access has been announced; Activision has not listed early access for Multiplayer or DMZ, which launch with the game on October 23. Modern Warfare 4 Standard Edition: what you get

The Digital Standard Edition is the full game plus the pre-order bonuses that every digital buyer receives (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026; Activision Support, September 2026):

• Campaign Early Access from October 16 (all digital editions).
• Early access to the Open Beta. The beta has already run; Activision’s own blog index (updated September 9, 2026) treats it as past, so this bonus no longer has practical value for new buyers.
• Hunter Killer Operator Skin, usable immediately in Black Ops 7 and Warzone and in Modern Warfare 4 at launch. It must be redeemed by October 23, 2027.
• Gilded Pearl Weapon Camo Pack: the Moonlit Pearl universal camo unlocked instantly in Black Ops 7, plus the Gilded Ruin camo earned by collecting 5,000 Skulls in a Black Ops 7 challenge that opened July 23, 2026. Both carry into Modern Warfare 4 at launch, and they are on the short list of things that do: see what carries forward from Black Ops 7.
• Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint at launch (Activision Support). Its look differs on Xbox Series X|S versus other platforms, but the build is functionally identical.

Physical Standard Editions exist on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 disc only, ship with the base game, and cannot be upgraded to Vault (Activision Support). There is no physical PC version and no physical Vault Edition.

Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition: everything extra

The Vault Edition is digital only and contains everything in the Standard Edition plus the following (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026):

Hostile Alliance Operator Pack

Four Operators at launch: Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix. Price and Valeria come with masked and unmasked variants.

Special Forces Operator Pack

Four more Operators, each with a skin representing their country and a voice pack in their local language: COM SFT (France), KSK Amphibious (Germany), South Korean Special Forces, and SAS (United Kingdom).

Signature Weapon Collection

Five weapons unlocked at launch, the ranged ones with attachments including an Apex Attachment: Kastov 762 (“Voltspine”), ISO Nightshade (“La Sombra Venenosa”), Rezi 12 (“Shattered Code”), Oris 8.6 (“Volt-Edge”) and the Combat Knife (“Sombra Besada”). Activision describes the Apex Attachments as experimental modules, for example the Kastov Arc RF-pulse barrel and the Oris Razor throwing-knife mount.

BlackCell, one season

One season of BlackCell, starting with Season 1 if you play before or during it. BlackCell includes 20 Battle Pass tier skips, 1,100 COD Points, an exclusive Operator and Weapon Blueprint, BlackCell variants of select Battle Pass content and the full Battle Pass. It only becomes usable once the Season 1 Battle Pass is live, on a date Activision has not announced.

DMZ Deployment Bonus

Extra DMZ content at launch. Activision has said “stay tuned” on the contents as of September 2026, so treat this line as unconfirmed until the DMZ intel drops.

Vault Edition loyalty discount and upgrade rules

• 10% loyalty discount on the Vault Edition if you owned and played a qualifying Call of Duty from Modern Warfare (2019) through Black Ops 7, on the same platform account. It is a pre-order discount, valid until October 23, 2026, and it does not apply to upgrades (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026).
• Upgrading Standard to Vault costs $30 US SRP and must be done on the platform where you bought the Standard Edition (Activision Support). Physical copies cannot upgrade.
• Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders opened August 26, 2026, per Activision Support.
• No Game Pass at launch and no Xbox One or PlayStation 4 version (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026).

Does the Standard Edition get campaign early access?

Yes, if it is a digital Standard Edition. Activision lists Campaign Early Access under all digital editions. Physical discs do not qualify.

What time does Modern Warfare 4 early access start?

Not confirmed. Activision has only said Friday, October 16 (PT) and has not given a clock time.

Does the Vault Edition include the Battle Pass?

It includes one season of BlackCell, which contains the full Battle Pass for that season plus 20 tier skips and 1,100 COD Points. It is one season only, and it activates when the Season 1 Battle Pass goes live.

Can I still get the Gilded Ruin serialized camo?

The challenge opened July 23, 2026 and serialized variants went to the first 100,000 players to finish it. Activision warned that later pre-orders have “greatly diminished” odds of a serialized copy; the non-serialized Gilded Ruin camo still unlocks when you complete the 5,000-Skull challenge.

Is the DMZ Deployment Bonus content known?

Not confirmed. Activision has said details are coming.
