MW4 DMZ has its own 70-level track, separate from the 1–55 Multiplayer levels. The key DMZ level unlocks are the 3D Printer at the start, the Vendor at Level 5, Gunsmith at Level 10, Field Upgrade printing at 12, a second Operator slot at 15, the Dog Tag Case at 20 and Fire Support printing at 28. Level 70 adds a 100% bounty payout.

MW4 DMZ level unlocks that change how you play
Most DMZ levels give a recipe or a few crafting ingredients. These are the ones that open a new station, add space or change your payouts:

One detail does not line up in Activision’s own post. Its table leaves Level 1 empty and lists the 3D Printer and the first recipes under Level 2, while the in-game screenshot in the same post labels those same unlocks Level 1. Activision has not said which is right; expect them at the very start of your DMZ career either way.
DMZ XP also feeds your Multiplayer Player Level, so every DMZ level you gain moves you toward Level 55 too. If you want that 1–55 climb handled, our MW4 rank boost covers it.

Activision names the DMZ XP sources as Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, Side Ops “and other activities”. It has not published how much XP each one gives, so there is no confirmed fastest route yet.
- DMZ XP counts twice. It raises your DMZ level and your 1–55 Player Level.
- It does not work the other way. XP from Multiplayer or Warzone does not count toward your DMZ level.
- Weapons level in DMZ too. Weapon XP, attachments and camo progress earned in DMZ carry over to Multiplayer, as explained in our guide to unlocking attachments fast in MW4.
A few early levels pay off quickly. Reaching Level 5 opens the Vendor and Level 10 opens Gunsmith, which is where you can spend DMZ Cash on weapons and attachments you have unlocked. FOB stations and when each one unlocks
The FOB, or Forward Operating Base, is your DMZ home base between deployments. Some stations are there from the start; others appear at a DMZ level. Going by the level table, these are tied to levels:
- 3D Printer at the start, then printing upgrades for Tacticals (4), Lethals (7), Field Upgrades (12) and Fire Support (28).
- Vendor at 5, with more stock at 18 and 32.
- Gunsmith at 10, with a 5% discount at 25.
- Dog Tag Case at 20. Activision says it can be expanded through 3D Printer upgrades.
DMZ Operators have their own Prestige system on top of this, covered in our DMZ Operator Prestige guide. Infinity Ward’s Trello board lists an open issue that stops some players from entering Prestige on their Active Duty Operators; its posted workaround is to complete the Operator Prestige requirement with rare (blue) weapons that have only three attachment slots and have never had four or more attachments.

What is the max DMZ level in MW4?
70. It is a separate track from the 1–55 Multiplayer Player Level.
Does DMZ XP count toward Multiplayer level in MW4?
Yes. DMZ XP raises your 1–55 Player Level as well. Multiplayer and Warzone XP do not raise your DMZ level.
What level is Gunsmith in MW4 DMZ?
DMZ Level 10.
When do you get a second Operator slot in DMZ?
At DMZ Level 15, which adds one Operator slot.
What do you get at DMZ Level 70?
18 more item stash slots, a 100% bounty payout upgrade and an Advanced SERE Kit, a legendary consumable with Operator Rescue Beacons, Weapon Insurance Contracts, Self Revives and Med Kits.
What is the fastest way to level up in DMZ?
Not confirmed. Activision lists Story Missions, Dynamic Operations and Side Ops as XP sources but has not published XP values for any of them.
