Yes, you can cancel a GTA 6 pre-order, but the rules depend on where you bought it. On PlayStation, refund eligibility depends on when you paid and whether you have started downloading or streaming the main game, and pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026. Microsoft Store lets you cancel online, and a cancellation after billing becomes a refund. Physical pre-orders are cancelled through the store that sold them.
Rockstar does not handle refunds for console storefronts itself. Its GTA 6 pre-order support FAQ sends PlayStation and Xbox buyers to those platforms’ support, Rockstar Store physical buyers to its payment partner Xsolla, and everyone else to the retailer. This guide goes through each one, using each store’s own policy.

GTA 6 pre-order refund dates to know
| Date (2026) | What happens | Why it matters for a refund |
|---|---|---|
| From November 9 | Microsoft Store may charge card pre-orders (up to 10 days before release) | Cancelling after the charge becomes a refund |
| November 12 | Digital pre-loading starts; physical copies become available | On PlayStation, starting the download, including a pre-load, ends your refund right; Rockstar Store physical pre-orders handled by Xsolla must be cancelled before shipment |
| November 19 | GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S | On PlayStation, the “any time before the release date” rule only covers pre-orders paid more than 14 days before launch; later payments get 14 days from payment |
| Before November 20 | Last day for the Vintage Vice City Pack bonus | On PlayStation, pre-order extra content stops working if you cancel |
The November 12 and November 19 dates come from Rockstar’s pre-order announcement and support FAQ. The November 9 date is our count of Microsoft’s “up to 10 days before the release date”. Rockstar has not published a launch hour, so we have not converted any times.
How to cancel a GTA 6 pre-order on PlayStation
The PlayStation Store cancellation policy has two cases for digital pre-orders:
- Paid more than 14 days before launch: you can cancel at any time before the release date and get a refund.
- Paid 14 days or less before launch: you can cancel up to 14 days after the payment was taken.
Both cases have the same condition: you must not have started downloading or streaming the main game, and the policy counts pre-loading before release as starting the download. Once you have, PlayStation says you cannot get a refund unless the item is faulty. The second case means a pre-order paid in the last two weeks before launch can still be cancelled after November 19, as long as you are within 14 days of payment and have not started the download.
This matters for GTA 6 because pre-loading opens on November 12. The policy notes that downloads happen automatically if Automatic Downloads is turned on in your system settings. If you are still unsure about keeping your pre-order, turn that setting off before November 12. The policy is the US version; other regions have their own pages and local consumer law can add rights.
How to cancel a GTA 6 pre-order on Xbox
Microsoft’s pre-order help page says you can cancel any pre-order online:
- Sign in to your Microsoft account Order history at account.microsoft.com.
- Find the Grand Theft Auto VI pre-order.
- Select Cancel and follow the steps on screen.
When you are charged depends on how you paid. Money in your Microsoft account is taken right away; a card or other payment method may be charged up to 10 days before release. If you cancel after the charge but before release, Microsoft processes it as a refund. Its cancellation page adds that if the Cancel option is missing on an Xbox pre-order, you request the refund through the Xbox refund webform instead.
Cancelling a physical GTA 6 pre-order
Rockstar’s physical pre-order article says cancellations are handled by the retailer you bought from.
- Rockstar Store: cancel through Xsolla’s pre-order cancellation form, using the email and order number from your confirmation email. Xsolla says physical pre-orders can only be cancelled before the order ships, the request covers every item in the order, and it cannot be withdrawn once sent.
- Any other retailer: contact that store directly. Rockstar cannot cancel it for you, and each retailer sets its own cancellation and return policy.
The physical version is a box with a download code inside, not a game disc, and Rockstar says physical copies will be available from November 12 to support pre-loading. Rockstar has not said when each order ships, so the rule to follow is Xsolla’s: cancel before your order ships.
What happens to the GTA 6 pre-order bonus and free GTA+ month
The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with pre-orders and purchases before November 20. PlayStation’s policy says pre-order extra content stops working if you cancel the pre-order.

Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+. Rockstar’s GTA+ support article says the offer is limited to one per platform account, and refunding and pre-ordering again does not give you a second month. GTA+ also renews monthly at the regular price, so cancelling the game does not cancel the membership. Turn off renewal separately if you redeemed it.

Should you cancel or keep your GTA 6 pre-order?
On PlayStation, the date to watch is November 12, when pre-loading opens: your refund right depends on whether you have started downloading, not on the date itself, so decide before your console starts the pre-load. On Xbox, you can cancel in Order history before release, even after you have been charged.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a refund on a GTA 6 pre-order?
Yes. On PlayStation, eligibility depends on when you paid and whether you have started downloading or streaming the main game. Microsoft Store refunds pre-orders cancelled before release, Rockstar Store physical pre-orders handled by Xsolla must be cancelled before shipment, and other retailers set their own cancellation and return policies.
Does pre-loading GTA 6 stop me getting a refund?
On PlayStation, yes. Its policy counts pre-loading as starting the download, and after that you cannot get a refund unless the item is faulty. Pre-loading opens November 12.
When will Xbox charge me for my GTA 6 pre-order?
Card payments may be charged up to 10 days before the November 19 release. Microsoft account balance is charged right away.
How do I cancel a Rockstar Store GTA 6 pre-order?
For a physical copy, use Xsolla’s pre-order cancellation form before the order ships. Rockstar’s FAQ points Rockstar Store physical buyers there.
Do I keep the free GTA+ month if I cancel?
Not stated. Rockstar only says that refunding and pre-ordering again will not give you a second month, and the membership keeps renewing until you turn it off.
