GTA 6 pre-loading starts on November 12, 2026, one week before the November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar says digital pre-orders can pre-load from that date, and physical copies, which contain a download code instead of a disc, go on sale the same day. As of October 28, Rockstar has not announced a pre-load start time or the game’s file size.

GTA 6 preload date: what Rockstar confirmed
Rockstar set the dates in its June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement, published through Take-Two:

The announcement gives dates only, with no hour or time zone for either pre-loading or launch. Because no time was given, we have not converted it into other time zones. Some outlets report a local-midnight start for pre-loading, but that is not in Rockstar’s announcement, so treat it as not confirmed.
Who can pre-load GTA 6
Rockstar’s wording is that “players who pre-order digital versions” can pre-load from November 12 so they can play at launch. In practice that means:
- Digital pre-order on PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store: pre-load from November 12.
- Digital pre-order from the Rockstar Games Store: Rockstar lists its own store as a seller, but it has not given separate pre-load steps for it.
- Physical copy: redeem the code in the box, then download. See the next section.
GTA 6 is only announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, so there is no PC pre-load.
GTA 6 physical copies: a download code, not a disc
The physical version of GTA 6 contains a download code inside the box. Rockstar’s pre-order support FAQ says physical copies “will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading.”
So a physical buyer still downloads the whole game, the same as a digital buyer. The difference is timing: you can only start once the box reaches you and you redeem the code. If you pre-ordered a box for delivery, the pre-load window shrinks by however long shipping takes. For orders placed on the Rockstar Store, the FAQ says you receive a tracking link by email when the order ships.
GTA 6 file size: not announced yet
Rockstar has not published a GTA 6 file size or storage requirement for either console. Neither the pre-order announcement nor the support FAQ gives a figure.
Numbers being shared online are unofficial, and we do not repeat them here. The exact size usually appears on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listing, or on your console’s download queue, once pre-loading opens on November 12. We will update this guide when Rockstar or the stores publish it.
Until then, the practical step is to check your free space before November 12. That way the pre-load does not stall partway, and you can play when the game unlocks on November 19.
What you get when you pre-order GTA 6
According to the same announcement, every GTA 6 pre-order and purchase made before November 20, 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+, which Rockstar describes as the best way to get the most out of GTA Online.
The Standard Edition is $79.99, and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Rockstar says the Ultimate Edition adds an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons and apparel across Jason and Lucia’s story. Both editions follow the same November 12 pre-load date.
Does pre-loading affect a GTA 6 refund?
On PlayStation, yes. Sony’s cancellation policy counts pre-loading as starting the download, and once you have started downloading you generally lose the right to cancel. If you are still unsure about your order, decide before November 12, and check whether automatic downloads are turned on.
