If you searched for a Battlefield 6 XP farm and landed on a page telling you to join a Portal bot server, that advice is almost a year out of date. Since October 21, 2025, Portal lobbies with AI bots no longer pay weapon progression or challenge progress. This guide lays out exactly what DICE changed, which lobby types still pay full XP in 2026, and the honest answer on the bot lobbies people still sell.

The short version

• Portal Custom Experiences (custom rules, bots or not) pay a flat match-completion bonus. No weapon Mastery XP, no challenge progress. Levelling a gun in one of these is a waste of an evening.
• Portal Verified Experiences (standard Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush) pay full XP like regular multiplayer, but kills on backfill bots only pay 10%.
• The fastest legitimate route is still normal matchmaking or a Verified server full of real players. The only shortcut that still works is a lobby where the other slots are real accounts sitting AFK, not the game’s AI.
• The bot lobby codes passed around on code lists all point at Custom Experiences, so they fall under the first bullet. The game itself flags those servers with an “XP Modified” badge.

Do the Battlefield 6 bot lobby codes still work?

Short answer: the codes still open the servers. The servers no longer pay what the code lists imply.

A Portal code is a short alphanumeric string, four or five characters, that opens a community-made experience. The code is only an address. What decides your XP is whether the experience behind it was published as Verified or Custom, and every bot lobby code doing the rounds points at a Custom Experience.

You do not have to take anyone’s word for it, because the game labels it for you. Open any experience in the Portal browser and the detail panel on the right carries an XP Modified badge, sitting above tags such as Symmetrical Modifiers, Heavily Modified and Custom Logic. If that badge is there, the lobby will not move a weapon Mastery bar no matter how many bots you kill in it, and the progression panel will read 150% Match Completion Bonus with every other line marked N/A. So a code list is still worth having if you want a particular map, mode or ruleset. It is not worth having if you want to level a gun, and any page selling you a code as an XP farm in 2026 is describing the game as it was before October 21, 2025.

What DICE actually changed, and when

The timeline matters because a lot of “XP farm” videos were recorded before these dates.

The developer’s own explanation, in the statement that preceded the nerf: a “large number of these servers were created primarily to earn XP, inflate player stats, and earn special accolades through defeating bots”, and that made it “noticeably harder” to find real Portal experiences. Battlefield 2042 went through the identical cycle in 2021, and its Portal never fully recovered, so do not expect this to be reversed.

The XP table: what each lobby type pays in 2026

The line that trips most people up is the Custom Experience row. It does not matter whether you switched the bots off, changed the map or set the rules to vanilla. If the experience is Custom rather than Verified, it pays the flat bonus and nothing else. That is why “legit” custom servers complained in October that their progression had stalled too.

Fastest legitimate ways to level in 2026

None of these are secrets, which is the point. After the nerf the shortcuts are gone and the fast options are the ones DICE wants you playing.

• Short, dense modes. Weapon XP comes from kills and the score events around them, so a mode with constant contact beats a 64-player map where you spend half the round driving. Play the smallest infantry modes in rotation and stay in the fight.
• Verified Portal servers with Bot Backfill off. Same XP as matchmaking, but you choose the map and mode. Hardcore and infantry-only Verified experiences rotate in the Featured section, and the BattlefieldOfficial and BFPortalOfficial accounts host persistent vanilla Conquest, Breakthrough and Rush servers.
• Finish every daily challenge. The October 2025 buff raised the XP on match completion and daily challenges specifically so that normal play catches up with the old farms.
• Use the lower Mastery curve. The first 20 Mastery ranks on each weapon were made cheaper. If you only need a gun to its early attachments, that is a couple of sessions, not a week.

Real Players AFK Bot Lobby

A private match where every other slot is a real account, AFK against a wall. Plenty of players call it an XP lobby, and that is exactly what it is: every kill is a player kill, so it pays what a kill in a public match pays — weapon XP, career XP, camo progress and assignment progress. This is the only kind of bot lobby that still does what people buy it for, and it is the only kind we run.

Will I get banned for farming XP?

Three separate things get mixed up here.

• Playing in any Portal server, Custom or Verified, is inside the game’s own tools. DICE’s answer to farms was to remove the XP, not to ban the players.
• Third-party software of any kind, including macros that hold a key down for you, is what EA’s anti-cheat is built to catch. Do not use it, and do not buy a service that does.
• Private lobbies with real AFK accounts sit in a grey area of the terms of service like every boosting service does. You are playing a normal match on your own account with no software involved, which is as low-risk as boosting gets, but no seller can honestly promise zero risk. We do not.
