In Battlefield 6, EA’s weapon badge track ends at Hardware Rank 50 with Elite; weapon pages put the Unstoppable Force package there. EA has never published a time to max. In late 2025, before EA’s Season 2 XP cuts, players reported about one weapon level per match and roughly 16 hours for one gun. EA says kills and assists award substantially more Hardware XP than passive weapon use.
Weapon level in Battlefield 6 is officially called Hardware Rank, and players usually call it weapon mastery. Each gun has its own track. The rules below come from EA’s own progression explainer (April 14, 2026) and its patch notes. The time estimates are player reports, and we say so where they appear. EA’s October 1 Season 5 preview discussed gameplay changes but did not announce weapon-progression changes when we checked on October 2, 2026.
What the max weapon level in Battlefield 6 unlocks
The cap is mastery level 50. EA ties every weapon and vehicle to five badge tiers on the way there:
| Hardware Rank | Weapon badge |
|---|---|
| 10 | Bronze |
| 20 | Silver |
| 30 | Gold |
| 40 | Platinum |
| 50 | Elite (red and black) |
EA says the game launched with 212 weapon and vehicle badges, plus one set per class from class assignments, for 228 in total. That total grows with each season. The badges count toward your Total Badge Rating on your player profile.
Most of the useful unlocks come before level 50. The community-run Battlefield Wiki page for the M4A1 lists its last attachment at mastery 40. After that, the only rank reward it lists is the Unstoppable Force package at mastery 50. The wiki lists the Warfighter package at mastery 10 for the same gun.

Unstoppable Force is the mastery camo. GameSpot’s launch-week guide notes that it sits in the Weapon Packages menu, not the camo menu, and only works on the weapon you maxed. That guide also said some secondaries had a lower max level at launch. The wiki now lists all five badge tiers up to mastery 50 for pistols such as the P18, so check your sidearm’s track in game.
How long it takes to max a weapon in Battlefield 6
EA does not publish a per-level XP table, and we found no current, measured time to level 50. The numbers below come from players on the Steam forums, not from EA. Each one is a single community source, and all of them date from late 2025, before EA’s later XP cuts.
- In an October 2025 Steam thread on slow weapon progression, one player said they maxed one weapon after about 16 hours of total playtime.
- In a November 2025 Steam thread, one player reported about 0.75 to 1 weapon level per Conquest match. Another reported about one level per game, or around 40 games for the attachments.
Since then, EA has made the grind shorter three times:
- Mid-October 2025: less Mastery XP needed for a weapon’s first 20 ranks, according to GameSpot’s October 21, 2025 report.
- Season 2 onward: EA says it reduced the Hardware XP needed to rank up weapons and vehicles. It also rescaled sidearms so their effort matches the time you spend using them.
- Update 1.2.3.0 (April 10, 2026): the patch notes add Weapon XP for active use on top of kills and assists. EA says XP from kills and assists is unchanged, so this only adds to the earn rate.
So the 2025 reports are reference points from an older, slower XP curve, not a ceiling on current playtime. EA has not said how much faster the current curve is, so we cannot turn them into a 2026 hour count. EA has not said how much faster the current curve is, so we can’t turn them into a 2026 hour count.
BF6 Weapon BadgesIf you'd rather not grind it: every Elite badge needs a weapon at mastery level 50.From $7.99View offerHow to earn weapon XP faster in Battlefield 6
EA’s explainer is clear about what earns the most. Kills and assists give a weapon a significant amount of Hardware XP. Simply holding the weapon in a match gives a small amount over time. Its own example: holding an M4A1 earns a little, and a kill with it earns much more.

That points to a few practical choices:
- Play modes with constant fighting. More kills and assists per minute means more weapon XP. The Battlefield Journal, a fan newsletter, recommends King of the Hill on Iberian Offensive and Saints Quarter through Custom Search. That is one writer’s tip from October 2025, not a side-by-side test.
- Use Double XP weekends. Battlefield’s official account told players during the January 23, 2026 Double XP weekend to let 2XP speed up weapon mastery. EA has not published a fixed schedule for these events.
- Stay on one gun. XP only goes to the weapon you use, so splitting matches between guns splits the progress.
- Pick a weapon you can get kills with. Since April 2026, time with the weapon also counts, but kills and assists still pay the most.

Do Portal bot lobbies still level weapons?
No. Since October 21, 2025, Portal lobbies with bots enabled do not award Mastery XP or challenge progress, as GameSpot reported. They can still award Career XP, while Portal lobbies without bots can award Mastery XP. Our XP farm and bot lobby codes guide explains which Portal setups still count and which don’t.
Which weapon to max first in Battlefield 6
Level the gun you will actually use, because its attachments are where the stat gains are. Most of them unlock well before level 50. If you’re still choosing, our carbine TTK rankings and assault rifle TTK comparison compare the main options by time to kill at each range.
