On Battlefinity’s July 2026 multiplayer numbers, the best LMG in Battlefield 6 by chest-shot time-to-kill depends on range. From 20 metres out it is the M250: its damage never drops, so it kills in four chest hits and 267 ms at every distance. Under 20 m the M121 A2 is faster, at 183 ms, but only if its disputed 35 damage is right.

First, where the numbers come from. The per-shot damage steps, rate of fire, magazine sizes and control ratings below come from Battlefinity’s Battlefield 6 weapon stats, a community-maintained stats site, not an official EA table. We used its Battlefield 6 multiplayer entries, not the REDSEC battle-royale entries, which use a different health model. All ten LMG entries carry an update stamp of July 6, 2026, so this is a snapshot from that date.

We also read the five game updates EA published between July 16 and September 14, 2026 (1.4.1.0, 1.4.1.5, 1.4.2.0, 1.4.2.5 and 1.4.3.0). None of them lists a damage or rate-of-fire change for any LMG. The LMG entries in them are visual fixes: attachment indicators on the M/60 and RPK-74M, underbarrel models on the M123K, an animation pose on the RPK-74M and grip hand positions on the RPKM and RPK-74M. A change made outside published patch notes, or between July 6 and July 16, would not show up in this check.

The shots-to-kill and time-to-kill figures are our own calculation, against the 100 health a multiplayer soldier has, chest hits only, at each LMG’s base stats: shots to kill = 100 ÷ chest damage rounded up, and TTK = (shots to kill − 1) × 60,000 ÷ RPM. That assumes every shot lands at a steady rate and ignores aim-down-sight time, bullet flight time and latency. So these are theoretical chest-hit TTKs from the firing interval alone, not measured kill times. It is the same method as our Battlefield 6 assault rifle TTK comparison.

Battlefinity publishes its own TTK figures too, and past close range they are higher than ours. Its data gives these LMGs a hitscan range of roughly 9 to 14 metres, which suggests it adds bullet flight time beyond that. It also counts eight shots to kill wherever the RPK-74M deals 14.7 per chest hit, although seven hits of 14.7 already add up to 102.9. We use the formula because anyone can check it against the listed damage and RPM.

Battlefield 6 LMG damage by range

Battlefinity lists ten LMGs. Each one’s damage falls in steps, and each step starts at a set distance. Eight of them drop twice, at 20 and 75 m. The RPKM drops four times, at 10, 20, 35 and 75 m. The M250 has no drop-off step at all.

KTS100 MK85146026 → 20.6 (20 m) → 17.2 (75 m)66

The control rating is Battlefinity’s own 0–100 score, not a measured recoil figure. The Battlefield Wiki’s weapon infoboxes, last edited in March 2026, agree with it on every rating except the M/60, where the wiki has 44 instead of 58.

The two sources disagree more on close-range damage. Where Battlefinity has 26, the wiki lists 25, which changes nothing (both are four-shot kills). But for the four 35-damage guns, the M121 A2, M240L, M/60 and RPKM, the wiki lists 33. That matters: three hits of 33 add up to 99, one short of a kill. EA’s 1.4.3.0 notes also fixed an issue where roughly 99 damage could occasionally kill a soldier. We use Battlefinity’s figures because they are the newer of the two, but we have not confirmed either in game.

Battlefield 6 LMG TTK ranked at every range

The five columns use shared distance bands built from the damage steps above, so together they cover every distance in Battlefinity’s model, from point-blank to beyond 75 metres. Each LMG’s damage carries forward until its next step. The table is sorted by the 20–35 m column. All nine ranked LMGs are listed with automatic fire on their Battlefield Wiki pages; the RPK-74M is shown but not ranked, for the reason in its own section.

Each cell is shots to kill / theoretical TTK. Three patterns stand out:

  • From 20 m out, the M250 leads every band. From 20 to 75 m only the M121 A2, M240L and M/60 also kill in four hits, and the M250 fires faster than all three; beyond 75 m it is the only four-shot LMG.
  • Under 20 m, the 35-damage guns lead. The M121 A2 (183 ms) and M240L (200 ms) are first and second, because they kill in three hits.
  • The M123K is never lower than third. It has the highest rate of fire in the class, 830 RPM, and it is second beyond 75 m.

M250: the best Battlefield 6 LMG past 20 metres

The M250’s case is that its damage does not fall. Battlefinity lists 26 per chest hit at every distance, so it needs four hits whether the target is 5 m or 100 m away. At 675 RPM that is 267 ms everywhere. Every other LMG slows down at 20 m and again at 75 m; the M250 does not, which is why it is first in the last three bands. Beyond 75 m it leads the next-fastest, the M123K, by 94 ms.

The costs are in the same data. Up close it is eighth of nine, behind every three-shot gun and the faster four-shot ones. Its base belt holds 50 rounds, half the 100 of the L110, M123K and M/60; the Battlefield Wiki lists a 100-round option that costs 55 attachment points. Battlefinity’s control rating for it is 44. It also unlocks late, at rank 46, the highest rank requirement of any LMG.

M121 A2: fastest LMG under 20 metres, if its 35 damage is right

The M121 A2 kills in three chest hits under 20 m, and at 654 RPM that is 183 ms, the fastest in the class there. It still deals 26 from 20 to 75 m, which makes it a four-shot gun at 275 ms, second only to the M250. Beyond 75 m it drops to third.

This is the ranking in the article that hangs on a disputed number. The Battlefield Wiki lists 33 close-range damage for it, not 35, and 33 needs four hits. On that figure its under-20 m TTK would be 275 ms, and the M123K would take first place there at 217 ms. The same dispute covers the M240L, M/60 and RPKM, so on the wiki’s numbers no LMG would kill in three chest hits.

EA’s Season 2 roadmap describes its rate of fire as on the high end of the category, with heavier recoil and a slightly longer reload than its peers. On Battlefinity’s figures its 654 RPM is sixth of ten. EA’s May 2026 update 1.3.1.0 also named it, with the M123K, among the high-DPS automatic weapons that got extra recoil. Battlefinity rates its control at 44.

M123K: the fastest-firing LMG in Battlefield 6

The M123K fires at 830 RPM, the highest in the class, from a 100-round belt. It shares the common 26 / 20.6 / 17.2 damage steps, so it needs one more hit than the 35-damage guns up close and one more than the M250 past 20 m. The rate of fire keeps it close anyway: third under 20 m at 217 ms, third from 20 to 75 m at 289 ms, and second beyond 75 m at 361 ms. It and the M121 A2 are the only LMGs in the top three of every band.

If the wiki’s 33 damage is the right figure for the 35-damage guns, the M123K becomes the fastest LMG under 20 m. The wiki lists a 200-round belt for it at a cost of 50 attachment points, and Battlefinity rates its control at 50. It unlocks at rank 38.

M240L, DRS-IAR, L110 and the other Battlefield 6 LMGs

The others, in brief:

  • M240L: second under 20 m at 200 ms, on the same 35-damage figure the wiki disputes. It is fourth from 20 to 75 m and fifth beyond. Battlefinity’s lowest LMG control rating, 42. The wiki lists a 75-round belt box as an option.
  • DRS-IAR: 771 RPM from a 30-round magazine, the smallest in the class, and a 2.5-second reload against more than 4 seconds for the belt-fed guns. Fourth or fifth in every band. The wiki lists semi-automatic fire as well as automatic.
  • L110: the default LMG, with a 100-round belt. Sixth in every band except under 10 m, where it is seventh.
  • M/60: a three-shot gun under 20 m at 233 ms, but at 514 RPM it falls to seventh from 20 m out.
  • RPKM: the only LMG whose damage falls at 10 m, from 35 to 27.5. That makes it 217 ms under 10 m and 325 ms at 10–20 m, and it is second-to-last from 20 m out.
  • KTS100 MK8: Battlefinity’s highest LMG control rating, 66, but at 514 RPM it is last in every band.

RPK-74M: why it is not ranked

The RPK-74M arrived with Season 3 in May 2026. It has no Battlefield 6 entry on the Battlefield Wiki, and EA’s Season 3 roadmap does not state its fire mode. Our TTK formula assumes fully automatic fire, so, as with the M16A4 in our assault rifle article, we show its shot counts but leave its TTK and placement blank until that is confirmed.

The shot counts already say a lot. It has the lowest damage in the class, 20.6 up close, which EA’s roadmap itself calls lower damage than other LMGs. That makes it a five-shot gun under 20 m, where every other LMG needs three or four. EA pitches it for longer range with minimal recoil, and Battlefinity’s control rating for it, 60, is second only to the KTS100 MK8.

Battlefield 6 LMG unlocks

Unlock conditions for the eight launch LMGs come from the Battlefield Wiki’s weapon pages and its Battlefield 6 assignments list; the rank requirements match Battlefinity’s. The two seasonal LMGs use EA’s own battle pass guides. EA’s Season 2 battle pass guide puts the M121 A2 at tier 17 of the free Steel Talon path, and its Season 3 battle pass guide puts the RPK-74M at tier 11 of the free Warlord Hunters path. We could not find how either one unlocks now that its season is over.

The top two picks are the slow ones to reach. The M250 needs rank 46, and the M121 A2 was a Season 2 battle pass reward. After that, the larger belts the wiki lists for both LMGs cost attachment points that come with weapon mastery. That weapon-level grind is what our XP farm and bot lobby guide covers.

Battlefield 6 LMG leveling services

If the mastery grind on an LMG you already own is the part you want to skip, these cover it. The full list of weapon services is on our Battlefield 6 boosting page. Check each listing for which LMGs and levels it includes, and whether the LMG has to be unlocked first.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best LMG in Battlefield 6?

By chest-shot time-to-kill on Battlefinity’s July 2026 multiplayer numbers, the M250 from 20 m out: 267 ms at every distance. Under 20 m the M121 A2 is faster, at 183 ms, if its 35 damage is right; on the wiki’s 33 it would be the M123K. There is no official ranking.

Does the M250 have damage drop-off?

Not on Battlefinity’s data, which lists 26 chest damage at every distance. The wiki’s M250 infobox gives only a close-range figure, 25, which is also a four-shot kill.

What is the fastest-firing LMG in Battlefield 6?

The M123K, at 830 RPM. The DRS-IAR is next at 771, then the L110 at 720.

Are LMGs better than assault rifles in Battlefield 6?

Beyond 75 m, on the same model, yes: the M250’s 267 ms beats the best rifles’ 333 ms. Closer in, the TR-7 is faster, at 167 ms up close against the M121 A2’s 183, and 250 ms from 20 m against the M250’s 267. The rifle numbers are in the assault rifle comparison linked above.

Were LMGs changed in the latest patch?

Not in the notes we read. EA’s game updates from July 16 to September 14, 2026 list no damage or rate-of-fire change for any LMG. Anything after 1.4.3.0 is not confirmed.
