The Matriarch only appears when the “Matriarch” map condition is active, and only on Dam Battlegrounds, Spaceport and Blue Gate. It is one of the largest ARC machines in the game, with an estimated 23,000 health and heavy armor. Shoot the faceplates until they break, then hit the exposed red core from high ground. Its signature loot is the Matriarch Reactor, and the kill itself pays 1,000 XP.

Matriarch spawn locations by map

You cannot go looking for a Matriarch on a normal raid. It spawns only under its own map condition, which the game shows before you pick a map and again on the loading screen; the in-game text reads “A Matriarch has been sighted nearby. Her children seem hell-bent on keeping her from harm.” The community-run ARC Raiders Wiki lists the condition on three maps with a difficulty rating of 4 on Dam Battlegrounds and 5 on Spaceport and Blue Gate. The map-specific search areas below come from PC Gamer’s guide, the most complete published set; Embark has not posted spawn points, and that guide dates from November 2025, so treat them as where to look rather than fixed coordinates.

MapReported search area (PC Gamer, November 2025)High ground the wiki recommends
Dam BattlegroundsThe Breach, east of Red LakesElectrical Substation for cover
SpaceportAround the Launch Towers in the centre of the mapControl Tower A6 and the Launch Towers
Blue GateBetween Ridgeline and the Warehouse Complex to the eastOn top of Reinforced Reception with deployable barricades

Buried City and Stella Montis are not listed for the condition as of September 18, 2026; PC Gamer notes the machine is simply too large for them. PC Gamer also notes the Matriarch event runs on normal map nodes rather than a separate node like Night Raids, so a Matriarch raid still counts for ordinary quests and Trials Season 5 challenges.

Matriarch attacks and abilities

Everything in this section is from the community-run ARC Raiders Wiki’s Matriarch page, last updated September 2, 2026. Its main attack is a Missile Swarm: three to six missiles launch upward from its back, then track anywhere a Raider has been seen. The wiki calls this the only attack that “really hurts”. Up close, a Leg Stomp knocks you down for about two seconds, and the constantly moving legs deal damage and knock you over if they clip you.

Four abilities make it hard to stay in one piece of cover:

  • Gas Capsule: thick green gas that blocks line of sight and drains stamina; it travels far and rolls on landing.
  • Flashbang Capsule: long-range, blinks briefly on landing, then whites out your screen if you are looking at it.
  • Energy Shield: absorbs every incoming projectile and throwable, including the Wolfpack, for roughly a minute. Only shots fired from inside the shield land.
  • Summon ARC: calls in Bastions, Bombardiers, Leapers and Rocketeers as its main guard, plus Fireballs, Hornets, Wasps and Ticks.

The summoned ARC are the real problem. The wiki’s assessment is blunt: if its “children” cannot protect it, the fight becomes trivial; if they can, fighting in the open is close to impossible.

How to kill the Matriarch: weak points and strategy

The two published guides disagree here, so check the dates. PC Gamer, writing in November 2025, says to “aim for the knee joints for extra damage, just as you would for Queens, Bombardiers, and Bastions”. The wiki’s combat tips, updated September 2, 2026, say the opposite: “Don’t target the legs, target its faceplates until they break off, then its big, red, glowing core will be exposed.” The wiki is the newer of the two and its advice matches the wiki’s own weak-point list, which names the core first, so break the faceplates and shoot the core. Knee joints still appear as a secondary weak point, but they are not where the fight is won.

When the Energy Shield comes up, either hold fire until it drops or, if you are confident, step inside the shield and shoot the exposed core from there. PC Gamer describes the same trick: the dome blocks projectiles from outside but leaves weak points exposed to anyone inside the bubble.

Position first, shoot second. Take one of the high-ground spots in the table above, behind large solid cover, and deal with the summoned ARC before committing to the core. PC Gamer’s loadout advice is high-penetration weapons such as the Jupiter, Hullcracker or Bettina with plenty of ammo, Wolfpack grenades while the shield is down, and Lure Grenades thrown at the Matriarch so its own minions damage it. The health figure of 23,000 is the wiki’s estimate, not an Embark number, so plan ammo for a long fight rather than a set count.

Plan for a squad. PC Gamer recommends bringing multiple players and teaming up with others in the match; the wiki says the fight becomes much easier once the summoned ARC are under control, which is not the same as calling it a reliable solo kill. Neither source describes soloing it as a plan.

Matriarch loot: the Matriarch Reactor and materials

The Matriarch Reactor is the machine’s signature Legendary drop; both the wiki and PC Gamer treat it as what you get for the kill, though neither states an explicit drop rate. The wiki’s main-debris list also includes Advanced ARC Powercell, Advanced Electrical Components, Advanced Mechanical Components, ARC Alloy, ARC Circuitry, ARC Coolant, ARC Flex Rubber, ARC Motion Core, ARC Performance Steel, ARC Synthetic Resin, ARC Thermo Lining, Complex Gun Parts and Magnetic Accelerator; the small-debris pool is the same minus the two Advanced component types. Scavenging pays 1,000 XP for the core and 500 XP per leg on top of 1,000 XP for the kill.

The reactor’s own wiki page puts its sell value at 11,000 credits, down from 13,000 in patch 1.17.0, and says it recycles into a Power Rod and a Magnetic Accelerator. Guides written before that patch, including PC Gamer’s, still quote the old 13,000 figure. The reactor is also a crafting component for the Aphelion I battle rifle, and PC Gamer reports that a Matriarch kill can drop the Aphelion blueprint itself if you are lucky. If the blueprint is what you are after, ARC Raiders blueprint locations covers where else it can turn up.

Matriarch and the Trials Season 5 final week

Week 11 of Trials Season 5, September 15 to 21, includes “Damage Queens or Matriarchs”, and Embark’s cut-off for the season is September 22, 2026. Damage counts, not kills, so even a partial fight from high ground scores. Either machine satisfies it; the ARC Raiders Queen guide covers where the other one spawns.

Frequently asked questions

Which maps can the Matriarch spawn on?
Dam Battlegrounds, Spaceport and Blue Gate, and only while the Matriarch map condition is active. Not Buried City or Stella Montis.

Where is the Matriarch’s weak point?
The core behind its faceplates. Break the plates first; the leg joints are a secondary weak point but the wiki advises against targeting the legs.

Does the Wolfpack work on the Matriarch?
Only while its Energy Shield is down. The shield absorbs all projectiles and throwables, the Wolfpack included, for about a minute.

Does the Matriarch always drop the Aphelion blueprint?
No. PC Gamer describes the blueprint as a lucky drop. The Matriarch Reactor is the drop associated with the kill itself.

Can I solo the Matriarch?
Plan for a squad. PC Gamer recommends multiple players; the wiki says the fight becomes much easier once the summoned ARC are controlled, but does not describe it as a reliable solo fight.

How much is the Matriarch Reactor worth?
11,000 credits, per the wiki. Patch 1.17.0 cut it from 13,000, so older guides still quote the higher number.
