Fortnite Ranked runs Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion and Unreal, with Unreal Legends above Unreal. Epic says your rank moves on placement, eliminations, opponent skill, damage dealt versus taken and the Storm circle you reach, with late-game play weighted most. Ranked is available in Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload and Reload Zero Build.
How to unlock and turn on Fortnite Ranked
Epic’s Fortnite Ranked Play Explained page says players on Epic accounts that have never logged into Fortnite must first complete a quest to outlast 500 opponents. Epic’s help article calls it the “Outlast 500 players” quest in your Kickstart quests.
After that, Epic gives these steps:
- Select Battle Royale, Zero Build or Reload from Discover.
- In the Mode Selection option above “Play”, turn “Ranked” on.
- Choose your queue type, such as Solo or Duos.
- Ready up.
Ranked is available in four modes: Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload and Reload Zero Build. Epic’s help article explicitly lists separate rank progression for Battle Royale, Zero Build and Reload, and says “Your rank in one mode does not affect your rank in another.” It does not say whether Reload Zero Build has its own ladder or shares Reload’s.
All Fortnite ranks in order
Epic lists eight ladder tiers, plus Unreal Legends above them. Its two official pages agree on Bronze to Diamond but not on the top three:
| Tier | Ranked Play Explained page | Help article |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | I, II, III | I, II, III |
| Silver | I, II, III | I, II, III |
| Gold | I, II, III | I, II, III |
| Platinum | I, II, III | I, II, III |
| Diamond | I, II, III | I, II, III |
| Elite | I, II, III | Single rank |
| Champion | I, II, III | Single rank |
| Unreal | I, II, III | Single rank |
| Unreal Legends | Not on either page’s table; earned from Unreal by meeting set requirements (see below). No divisions announced. | |

Epic has not said which page is current. The Ranked Play page is the more detailed of the two, but check the rank screen in game to see how your top tiers are split. Lobbies are built around your current rank, or the rank of the highest-ranked player in your team.
How to rank up in Fortnite Ranked
Epic lists five factors that decide whether your rank goes up or down after a match:
- Your final placement
- The number of eliminations you get
- The skill level of the opponents you face
- Your damage dealt versus damage taken
- The Storm circle you reach before you are eliminated
Epic says the system weighs these “dynamically”, and late-game performance counts “significantly more” than early-game actions. It does not publish point values.
Fortnite Ranked Boost - Battle RoyaleBattle Royale Ranked boost: rank moves on placement, eliminations, opponent skill, damage and the Storm circle reached. From $3.79View offerEliminations: timing and opponent rank matter
Epic’s example is specific: an elimination when only 20 players remain rewards you “considerably more” than one when 80 remain. Eliminating a higher-ranked player also pays more, so a Gold player gets more for taking down a Diamond than a Bronze.
Placement: the Storm circle can matter more than your number
A Victory Royale gives the biggest placement boost. But Epic says the Storm circle you reach “often matters more than your exact placement number”. Its example: reaching Storm circle 8 in 5th place usually earns more than reaching circle 5 in 2nd place.
Placement rewards also scale up toward the top, so the gap between 2nd and 1st is bigger than between 50th and 45th. Epic adds consistency bonuses for steady results and penalties for players who are often eliminated early.
Put together, Epic’s rules favour surviving deep into the Storm, avoiding early deaths and taking fights late, when eliminations are worth more.
Can you lose rank in Fortnite?
Yes, but there are three protections in Epic’s official pages:
- First Match Loss Protection: once a day, for each Ranked experience, your first match “will not make you regress if you perform poorly”.
- Elite floor: Epic’s help article says that once you reach Elite, you cannot be demoted below it for the rest of the season.
- Unreal: the Ranked Play page says that once you reach Unreal, “you’ll stay in Unreal until the next rank reset”.
Unreal rank and Unreal Legends
Reaching Unreal gives you access to Epic’s Unreal leaderboard, where Unreal players compete for the top spots. Epic’s help article says high ranks also unlock eligibility for Epic-hosted tournaments, including FNCS, and that reaching certain ranks each season earns exclusive cosmetic rewards.

Above Unreal sits Unreal Legends, added in Epic’s FNCS Schedule and Competitive Updates post. As reported by Fortnite Tracker on May 29, 2026, Epic set three requirements, all at the same time:
- Reach Unreal.
- Hold a Skill Rating of at least 2,500.
- Place in the top 500 on the Unreal leaderboard.
You lose Unreal Legend status if you drop below any one of them. Unlike Unreal itself, which lasts until the next rank reset, it is not protected for the season.
Do Fortnite ranks reset every season?
Yes. Epic’s help article says “Ranks partially reset at the start of each new season.” Epic has not said how far a reset moves you down.
Your Skill Rating does carry over. In the same competitive update post, as reported by Fortnite Tracker, Epic said players keep their Skill Rating when ranks reset, so matchmaking can place them against players of a similar skill level.
Ranked rewards are cosmetics, not V-Bucks; our free V-Bucks guide lists the legitimate ways to earn V-Bucks. Our guide to levelling the Fortnite Battle Pass fast covers the separate seasonal XP grind.
Fortnite Ranked boosting services
If the climb takes longer than you want, our Fortnite boosting page lists Ranked orders by mode. Battle Royale, Zero Build and Reload have separate rank progression, so pick the one you play; Epic does not clarify whether Reload Zero Build has a separate ladder.

How do you unlock Ranked in Fortnite?
New accounts must complete the quest to outlast 500 opponents. Then turn Ranked on in the Mode Selection option above “Play”.
What is the highest rank in Fortnite?
Unreal Legends is the highest announced Ranked tier. You reach it from Unreal by holding at least 2,500 Skill Rating and placing in the top 500 of the Unreal leaderboard.
Does my Zero Build rank affect my Battle Royale rank?
No. Epic lists separate rank progression for Battle Royale, Zero Build and Reload.
Do you keep your Skill Rating after a rank reset?
Yes. Epic said players keep their Skill Rating when ranks reset, as reported by Fortnite Tracker.
Do you lose rank for one bad game?
Not in your first match of the day. Epic’s First Match Loss Protection stops that match from making you regress, once a day for each Ranked experience.
How many points is a Victory Royale worth in Ranked?
Not confirmed. Epic says it gives the maximum placement boost but does not publish point values.
