V-Bucks can be earned by playing, but not every route is free: completing the Battle Pass returns up to 800 V-Bucks a season (the pass itself costs 800), the free track has included some V-Bucks in past seasons, and Save the World quests pay V-Bucks to Founder’s Pack owners only. Crew, Epic Rewards and refunds are paid or money back, not free. Generators are scams.
Every legit way to get free V-Bucks in Fortnite
Epic’s help center is blunt about this: do not trust offers of free V-Bucks on external sites, because real offers only appear on Epic’s own store, websites and social channels. The legit sources split into two groups: V-Bucks you earn by playing, and paid or money-back options that are not free.
Earned by playing
| Source | V-Bucks | What it costs you | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battle Pass (paid track) | Up to 800 per season | Playtime, once you own the pass (it costs 800 V-Bucks, so this is a refund of the pass rather than a profit) | Pass owners and Crew subscribers |
| Free track of the pass | Some V-Bucks in past seasons (Fortnite Wiki); current amount not confirmed | Playtime only | Everyone |
| Save the World quests | Varies by quest | Playtime only | Founder’s Pack owners only |
Paid or money back: not free V-Bucks
| Source | What you get | What it costs you | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite Crew | 800 per month | $11.99 a month subscription | Subscribers, including Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members |
| Epic Rewards | Not V-Bucks: 20% back as Epic Rewards credit | Buying with Epic’s payment system | PC, iOS, Android and web purchases |
| Cancel Purchase and Return Tickets | Returns the V-Bucks you spent | Giving the item back | Eligible Item Shop purchases |
The free track is the only possible no-purchase route, if the current Passes tab includes V-Bucks. Save the World pays V-Bucks only to owners of a Founder’s Pack, which was a paid purchase, and the paid Battle Pass has to be bought once before it can pay for the next season.
How many V-Bucks the Fortnite Battle Pass gives back per season
The Battle Pass is the largest documented source of V-Bucks you can earn in the game. Epic’s V-Bucks price increase post lists changes starting March 19, 2026: the Battle Pass now costs 800 V-Bucks and awards 800 V-Bucks for completing it. Epic’s own FAQ says that is enough to get the next pass, and that there are no longer V-Bucks in the pass’s Bonus Rewards. For where Battle Pass XP comes from, see how to level up the Fortnite Battle Pass.
Before that change, the pass cost 1,000 V-Bucks and paid 1,000 plus 500 more in Bonus Rewards, up to 1,500 in total. Dotesports’ March 10, 2026 report covered the same announcement. Older guides that promise 1,500 per season are out of date. What each pack costs now is in our Fortnite V-Bucks prices guide.

In the current Chapter 7 Season 4 Override pass, the Fortnite Wiki’s season page lists the 800 V-Bucks as eight rewards of 100 V-Bucks, spread across the pass pages. You only collect them if you level far enough before the season ends. Epic’s deadline is November 1, 2026 Eastern Time, as covered in our Chapter 7 Season 4 end date guide.
Fortnite Battle Pass Leveling (1-200)The Override pass pays back up to 800 V-Bucks, but only if you reach those levels before November 1, 2026 Eastern Time. From $4.31View offerFree track V-Bucks for players who don’t buy the Battle Pass
This part comes from the community-run Fortnite Wiki, not Epic: its Battle Pass page says the free track has included some V-Bucks in past seasons. Epic’s price-change post only covers the paid pass, and we could not confirm how many V-Bucks the Override free track holds, or whether they count toward the paid track’s 800. Open the Passes tab in game and check the free rewards to see the current amount.
Save the World V-Bucks: who still earns them
Save the World, Fortnite’s paid co-op mode, still pays V-Bucks, but not to everyone. Epic’s Save the World V-Bucks help article says Founders earn V-Bucks from quests, including some daily quests, Storm Shield Defense missions and some challenges. Non-Founders earn X-Ray Tickets instead, which only buy X-Ray Llamas inside Save the World.

“Founder” means you own one of the early-access Founder’s Packs. According to the Fortnite Wiki, V-Bucks rewards were limited to Founders from update v9.40, and since v20.00 V-Bucks can no longer be spent inside Save the World at all. What Founders earn goes to the same wallet they use in Battle Royale.
These amounts come from the community-run Fortnite Wiki, not from Epic:
- Daily Quests pay 100 to 150 V-Bucks, and you can hold three at once.
- Storm Shield Defenses 1 to 9 pay 100 V-Bucks each; Storm Shield Defense 10 pays 150.
- Mini-Boss Mission Alerts can pay 50 V-Bucks.
- The “Hold the Door!” and “Toxic Treasures” challenge quests pay 50 V-Bucks per stage, up to 20 stages.
If you bought Save the World without a Founder’s Pack, none of these routes pay V-Bucks.
Fortnite Crew: 800 V-Bucks a month, but it is paid
Fortnite Crew is not free, but it pays V-Bucks every month. Epic’s Fortnite Crew page lists it at $11.99 a month and says subscribers get 800 V-Bucks, plus access to the Battle Pass, OG Pass, LEGO Pass and Music Pass, a monthly Crew Pack and Rocket Pass Premium in Rocket League. Epic notes that monthly content is subject to change. This month’s pack is in our Fortnite Crew guide.

The monthly grant was 1,000 V-Bucks before the March 2026 change. Two details matter for the V-Bucks count. Crew includes the Battle Pass, so a subscriber can also earn the pass’s V-Bucks without spending 800 on it. And the same page says Crew is part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, so Game Pass Ultimate members already receive the Crew benefits.
Epic Rewards and refunds: getting V-Bucks value back
Epic Rewards is store credit, not V-Bucks, but it lowers what you pay. Epic’s May 9, 2025 Epic Games Store post says Fortnite purchases made with Epic’s payment system on PC, iOS, Android and the web earn 20% back, and that this rate is “here to stay.” Rewards can be spent in Fortnite, Epic’s other games and the Epic Games Store. The post lists PC, iOS, Android and the web; console store purchases are not on that list.

Refunds are the other official way to get V-Bucks back. Epic’s guide to cancelling or refunding Item Shop purchases describes two tools:
- Cancel Purchase: for 24 hours after buying, as long as the item has not been used or equipped. Each item can only be cancelled once.
- Return Tickets: for eligible items bought in the last 30 days. Every account starts with 3, gets 1 new ticket every 365 days, and can hold up to 3. Epic support cannot grant extra tickets.
Passes, Battle Pass levels, gifts, Level Up Quest Packs, Save the World llamas and purchases inside developer-made islands cannot be returned this way. Real-money purchases made through a third-party store go through that store’s refund process instead.
Free V-Bucks scams to avoid: generators, maps and fake rewards
Any website, video or app that “generates” V-Bucks is not Epic. As Epic’s help center says above, real offers only appear on Epic’s own store, websites and social channels, so a page that asks you to sign in with your Epic account to claim V-Bucks is not an Epic offer.
Islands that promise free V-Bucks break Epic’s own rules. The Fortnite Developer Rules (last updated April 29, 2026) tell creators not to mention V-Bucks, the Battle Pass or rewards in island titles, thumbnails and descriptions. They also forbid creators from offering V-Bucks inside an island.
The scams keep changing shape. A July 31, 2026 Malwarebytes report describes pages that promise free V-Bucks, cash, or a “locker value” calculator, and all end at a fake Epic login page. It also flags fake settlement pages paying “V-Bucks”: the real FTC settlement with Epic pays actual money through the FTC, and its claim window closed in July 2025.
If you already typed your Epic login into one of these pages:
- Change your password by going to epicgames.com directly, not through the link you clicked.
- Turn on two-factor authentication in your Epic account settings.
- Use a password you do not reuse anywhere else.
- If you entered card details, contact your card issuer.

Are free V-Bucks generators real?
No. Epic says real offers only appear on its own store, websites and social channels, and that you should never enter your Epic login on an external site.
How many V-Bucks does the Battle Pass give back now?
Up to 800 V-Bucks per season since March 19, 2026, the same as the pass’s 800 V-Bucks price. Before that change a full pass could return up to 1,500.
Can you get V-Bucks without paying anything?
Only in small or limited ways. The free track has included some V-Bucks in past seasons according to the Fortnite Wiki, but the current amount is not confirmed; check the Passes tab. Save the World quests pay V-Bucks only to Founder’s Pack owners.
Do non-Founders earn V-Bucks in Save the World?
No. Epic says non-Founders earn X-Ray Tickets in place of V-Bucks, and those only buy X-Ray Llamas in Save the World.
How many V-Bucks does Fortnite Crew give per month?
800 V-Bucks a month for $11.99, according to Epic’s Crew page. It was 1,000 before the March 2026 change.
Can I get V-Bucks back for a skin I regret buying?
Often, yes. Cancel Purchase works for 24 hours if the item is unused, and a Return Ticket works for eligible items bought in the last 30 days; each account holds at most 3 tickets.
