The MW4 October 30 update raises DMZ Cash rewards: Dynamic Ops now pay 10,000 to 20,000 instead of 5,000 to 10,000, Side Ops pay 2,000 instead of 500, and each mission step pays 500 instead of 300. It also adds Infected for Halloween weekend. The October 29 update before it raised Multiplayer XP in several modes and added Possession.
Both updates are listed in Infinity Ward’s MW4 launch patch notes, which add a new section for each update. Neither section gives a release time. This page covers what changed for DMZ Cash, Multiplayer XP and the two Halloween modes, plus the fixes that matter for camo and level progress. For the first weapon tuning pass, see our MW4 October 28 patch notes.
MW4 DMZ Cash rewards: before and after October 30
Infinity Ward says the October 30 change “adjusted Cash rewards across DMZ to improve the in-game economy”. These are the three numbers it published:
| DMZ activity | Cash before | Cash after October 30 |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamic Ops | 5,000 to 10,000 | 10,000 to 20,000 |
| Side Ops | 500 | 2,000 |
| Mission steps | 300 per completed step | 500 per completed step |
By our calculation from those official numbers, Dynamic Op payouts double and Side Ops pay four times as much, so Side Ops have the largest proportional increase. The day before, the October 29 notes had already announced “a slight economy adjustment” raising Cash for Dynamic Ops, Side Ops and Story Mission replays, without numbers. The October 30 notes do not say whether the “before” figures already include that October 29 increase, or whether “mission steps” means the same thing as Story Mission replays, so neither is confirmed.
Activision's DMZ deep dive says the After Action Report shown after every deployment breaks down the DMZ Cash you found or earned from Operations, and that the total is placed into your Bank. The DMZ level unlocks guide covers what your DMZ level opens up along the way. If you are working through the DMZ Mastery Camo challenges, the October 29 fix below also matters.

The October 30 update fixes three Dynamic Op and Order problems:
- Broken Resupply: the required mission item could be missing from the marked vehicle’s trunk.
- Information Power Order: players sometimes could not buy Intel from the Boss Board, which blocked progress.
- Hunt Operator: the mission timer was missing and the objective text showed on the in-world marker.
The October 29 update has the fixes most likely to affect your progress:
- Certain squadmate actions failed to count toward DMZ Mastery Camo challenge progress. That is fixed; the notes do not say which actions.
- The Encrypted Voice Logs for the Ears Everywhere Order did not spawn consistently. That is fixed.
- Players could extract with a disconnected teammate’s Dog Tag and keep it in their Dog Tag Case. That is closed.
- The Scavenger could detect players right after deployment, and enemy helicopters could crash into the Exfil helicopter during extraction. Both are fixed.
The October 29 notes also say the earlier fix for the missing 3-Plate Armor Vest at DMZ Level 37 only helped players who had not reached level 37 yet. Infinity Ward says it is “actively working” on giving the vest to players who passed level 37 before the fix, with no date.
Did MW4 increase Multiplayer XP?
Yes. The October 29 notes say “We’ve increased XP earn rates across several Multiplayer modes to improve consistency in progression.” They do not list which modes or by how much, so the size of the increase is not confirmed. It follows the October 25 change that raised the XP for one kill from 100 to 300 in Search and Destroy and Collateral, covered in our MW4 October 25 update breakdown.
Other Multiplayer fixes across the two updates:
- Shipment no longer gives redundant enemy location callouts. The notes add: “Y’all know enemies are at the Containers.”
- Out-of-bounds exploits were closed on Mumbai and Coal, and the Recon Drone can no longer be deployed out of bounds on Silkworm.
- Players could be kicked for inactivity too early in Search and Destroy. That is fixed.
- On PC, Platinum Camo progress for Marksman Rifles was not displaying correctly. That is fixed.
- The Calling Card menu now keeps showing unlock requirements after you complete them.

Possession and Infected: MW4 Halloween modes
Possession went live with the October 29 update and Infected with the October 30 update, which calls it a Halloween Party Mode joining “for Halloween weekend”. Activision’s maps and modes blog explains both:
- Possession: eliminating an enemy possesses them. You move to their location and take their loadout, so you can jump onto a Hardpoint or reach a Search and Destroy bombsite fast. You always possess the player you eliminate, so pick your kills with care.
- Infected: one player starts as Infected at random. Each Survivor they eliminate joins the Infected team. Survivors try to hold out as long as they can.
Neither post says how long the two modes stay in the playlist after Halloween, so the end date is not confirmed. Activision says Season 1 arrives on November 6, and our MW4 Season 1 guide covers what it brings.
