Wardogs Best Sniper Rifle: Mosin vs SV98 vs MK22 vs AMR 50

Why the rifle most players should aim for sits at Recon 19, and why the $75 binoculars matter more than the starter sniper on the way there.

There is no official pick for the best Wardogs sniper rifle, and community sources split. WardogsBuild calls the SV98 at Recon 19 the best all-round sniper; FandomWire ranks the AMR 50 at Recon 35 first for its 107 damage; Dexerto rates both A-tier. The SKS at Recon 5 is the value pick, and three sources say to skip the starter Scout Rifle TD.

Every rifle in this guide feeds the Recon track. Carrying one, or spotting enemies with binoculars, earns Recon XP whatever else is in your kit, so the rifle you pick also decides which unlocks come next. How the Season 1 role curve works is in our Wardogs Season 1 leveling guide. The rifles and machine guns that compete for the same primary slot are compared in the best Wardogs assault rifle and Wardogs LMG and shotgun guides.

Wardogs sniper rifle unlock levels and prices

Bulkhead has not published an unlock table, so the levels and costs below come from community sources, not from an official list. Three of them agree on every row: the fan-run WARDOGS Hub progression list (Season 1 data, marked “reported”), the “Unlocked By” tables in Dexerto’s community-run Wardogs wiki, and Allthings.how’s sniper unlock guide of September 6. The Scout Rifle TD is the only one with no level gate.

Sniper rifleRecon levelOne-time unlockCost per lifeCalibreAction
Scout Rifle TDNone (starter)None$1,1005.56x45mmBreak-action, single shot
Mosin Nagant10$50,000$4,5007.62x54mmRBolt-action

MK2225$150,000$6,400.308 WinchesterBolt-action, magazine fed
AMR 5035$200,000$8,800.50 CalBolt-action, magazine fed

The level only gives you permission to pay the unlock. After that you pay the cost per life every time you spawn with the rifle, and ammunition is bought separately: WARDOGS Hub prices a box at $30 for 7.62x54mmR, $40 for .308 and $250 for .50 Cal. Bulkhead’s official Season 1 changelog of September 9, 2026 lists no level or price change for any of these rifles; the only Recon price changes are two scopes, the 6-10x MRAD ($25,000 to $40,000) and the 6-10x MOA ($30,000 to $45,000). For the income side, see how to make money fast in Wardogs.

Wardogs sniper rifle stats compared: damage, range and handling

The figures below come from Dexerto’s community-run wiki, not from an official stat sheet. Where WARDOGS Hub also gives a number (damage and fire rate, from the Closed Alpha of August 7, 2026), the two sites match.

Past the full-damage range, Dexerto’s falloff tables drop every one of these rifles to 40% damage (the Scout to 20%): the Mosin by 1,200 m, the SV98 by 1,500 m, the MK22 by 1,600 m and the AMR 50 by 2,500 m. FandomWire’s sniper ranking of September 13 reads the same numbers the same way: the AMR 50 has the tightest accuracy, the MK22 the second tightest, and the Scout the loosest.

Two points are disputed. First, Allthings.how says the SV98 beats the Mosin on cycle rate, bullet velocity and damage, but Dexerto and WARDOGS Hub list both at 55 damage and 46 RPM, and Dexerto gives the SV98 the lower velocity; the SV98’s clear gains in the data are range, accuracy, aim time and a 10-round magazine. Second, magazines: Dexerto lists the MK22 with a 10-round magazine fitted by default, while WARDOGS Hub’s unlock list only shows a 5-round MK22 magazine at Recon 25. For the AMR 50 both sources agree on a 5-round magazine first, and WARDOGS Hub puts the 10-round magazine at Recon 50, the last unlock on the track.

Can a Wardogs sniper rifle one-shot? Headshots, armour and the AMR 50

This section is community testing, not official data, and the sources do not fully agree. WARDOGS Hub models a 100-health target, and on that model the 55-damage Mosin and SV98 need two body shots; the MK22’s 60 is also short of 100. One-shot kills with those rifles are headshots, and they depend on the helmet.

  • Scout Rifle TD: WARDOGS Hub’s Recon levelling guide says a headshot on an unhelmeted player left them alive in Closed Beta 02.
  • Mosin Nagant: WARDOGS Hub calls it the first one-shot precision rifle on the track. WardogsBuild’s sniper ranking (updated September 16) says it one-shots the head through a standard helmet.
  • SV98: WardogsBuild says one headshot or two body shots against level 2 armour, the tier it says most players run.
  • MK22: WardogsBuild says it one-shots the head.
  • AMR 50: WardogsBuild lists 205 head damage and says it one-shots the head through any helmet. On body shots the sources differ: WARDOGS Hub says 107 damage is enough to “delete infantry through any armour”, while WardogsBuild’s AMR 50 loadout page says it one-shots the chest through armour levels 0 to 3 and needs a second shot against level 4, the heaviest armour.

WardogsBuild adds that against level 3 and 4 helmets every rifle below the AMR 50 needs an extra round, so plan for a follow-up shot. Dexerto describes the AMR 50 itself as built “to destroy armored targets and vehicles over an extremely long range”.

Which Wardogs sniper rifle to buy at each Recon level

Put the sources together and the ladder looks like this. Every step is a community recommendation, not an official one.

  1. Recon 0 to 5: no sniper rifle. WARDOGS Hub, Dexerto and WardogsBuild all say skip the Scout Rifle TD and level by spotting instead (see the Recon levelling section below).
  2. Recon 10: Mosin Nagant. The cheapest full-power bolt-action at $4,500 a life, 45% of the $10,000 loadout budget WARDOGS Hub works from. FandomWire says it is outclassed once the SV98 is available.
  3. Recon 19: SV98. WardogsBuild’s pick for best all-round sniper: same damage as the Mosin, double the full-damage range and a 10-round magazine, for $700 more per life.
  4. Recon 25: MK22. FandomWire ranks it second for its 60 damage, 1,000 m range and tight accuracy. Dexerto rates it B, one tier below the SV98, and at $6,400 it takes 64% of the loadout budget.
  5. Recon 35: AMR 50. The top rifle in FandomWire’s ranking. The catch every source names is cost and weight: $8,800 is 88% of the loadout budget, the ammunition is $250 a box, and at 12.5 kg WardogsBuild says it “costs you your sprint”. Allthings.how calls it a prepared-position weapon for high-value targets, not a general-purpose rifle.

Whichever rifle you buy, zero the scope first. Allthings.how says the default zero is roughly 100 m and that Page Up and Page Down change it, and it suggests learning each rifle’s drop on the firing range before taking a $5,200 SV98 into a live match. Wardogs uses real bullet drop and travel time, so a rifle zeroed at 100 m will shoot low from a tower roof.

Wardogs marksman rifles and the bow: SKS, SVD and BMR-308

These also earn Recon XP, and they are the semi-automatic alternative to a bolt-action. The data is again community-sourced (Dexerto’s wiki and WARDOGS Hub), with the same unlock levels in all three unlock lists.

SVD12$50,000$4,80055480 RPM800 mS
BMR-30830$125,000$6,00060450 RPM500 mS

WardogsBuild names the SKS the best value rifle on the track, because it gets kills and so keeps the Recon bar moving; WARDOGS Hub says it one-shots an unhelmeted head, which the Scout cannot. The SVD is the consensus mid-game pick: WardogsBuild calls it the best marksman rifle, and WARDOGS Hub and Allthings.how both note a 1.3x torso multiplier and a 10-round magazine that WARDOGS Hub puts at Recon 16.

The Compound Bow opens at Recon 17 and costs $800 a life, with 77 damage per arrow in Dexerto’s data. Two things are disputed. The unlock is $75,000 in WARDOGS Hub and Allthings.how but $125,000 in Dexerto’s Unlocked By table. And WardogsBuild says the bow has no damage drop-off, while Dexerto’s falloff table keeps full damage only to 100 m. WardogsBuild says it one-shots anyone in light armour anywhere on the body; WARDOGS Hub’s point is that it makes no flash and no sound.

How to level Recon to 19, 25 and 35 in Wardogs

The XP figures here are community-reported, from players testing the Closed Beta, not from Bulkhead, which has not published per-action XP. Two things pay Recon XP: spotting enemies, and hits or kills with Recon weapons (sniper rifles, marksman rifles and the bow).

  1. Buy binoculars. They cost $75, need no level and sit in the Specialist slot, according to WARDOGS Hub and Allthings.how. The Monocular opens at Recon 2 ($7,500 unlock) and the Rangefinder, the first tool that shows distance, at Recon 8 ($15,000).
  2. Spot from height. Press 3 to raise the tool and hold it on an enemy for one to two seconds. Allthings.how’s figures, taken from a beta video, are 25 Recon XP and $100 for the first tag on infantry, and 150 XP and $400 when a tagged target is killed by anyone. Vehicles, FOBs and supply drops can be tagged too.
  3. Switch to the SKS at Recon 5. A kill with a Recon weapon is worth 250 Recon XP, or 350 at long range, in the same source. Dexerto’s Recon guide says to keep spotting while you shoot.
  4. Keep spotting after the rifle unlocks. WARDOGS Hub notes that the climb from Recon 0 to 2 is 750 XP if you only use the Scout Rifle, and that spotting keeps paying underneath your kills all the way up.

Those per-action numbers are from before launch, and the Season 1 changelog says Bulkhead “rebalanced the role track XP curve from level 6 upward”. How many XP each level now takes is in the Season 1 XP curve table of the leveling guide linked at the top of this page. Recon unlocks stop at level 50 in WARDOGS Hub’s data.

Do Wardogs sniper rifle unlocks reset in Season 2?

Bulkhead’s Season 02 teaser on Steam dates Season 2 to October 15, 2026. The Season 1 changelog also says “Each season we will have a different XP curve with different item orders”, so the Recon levels in this guide are not guaranteed to carry over. What the wipe takes, including cash and levels, is covered in our Wardogs Season 2 wipe guide. Re-check the unlock levels once Season 2 is live.
