Every Modern Warfare 4 weapon has eight Military Camos, unlocked one after another by reaching set weapon levels. The levels differ per gun. On the Han 86 assault rifle they unlock at Weapon Levels 10, 18, 25, 34, 42, 50, 57 and 65, out of a Max Level of 72. Weapon XP from Multiplayer and DMZ both count.
The rules and the Han 86 numbers come from the Weapon Camos section of Activision’s Ready for Launch progression post of October 19, 2026. Activision used the Han 86 as its worked example and has not published the levels for other weapons.

The last one arrives seven levels before the Han 86’s Max Level of 72. Activision says the milestones on other weapons are set with each gun’s own Max Level in mind, so a gun with a lower cap, such as the Sang 9mm pistol at 38, will hit its Military Camos at lower levels. Those exact numbers are not published.
How Military Camos work in MW4
- Eight per weapon, in order. Each gun has the same eight Military Camos, numbered 1 to 8, unlocked one after another.
- Weapon level only. There is no kill challenge attached. Using the weapon and levelling it is all it takes.
- Per weapon. Unlocking Military Camo 5 on one gun does not unlock it on another. Each weapon earns its own set.
- Any mode. Weapon XP from Multiplayer and DMZ both count, and Activision says Warzone will count from Season 1 on November 6.
Because they are pure weapon levels, Military Camos are the part of the camo grind that a weapon leveling run covers. Our MW4 weapon leveling takes one gun to Max Level, past all eight.

Since these camos only need weapon levels, anything that speeds up Weapon XP speeds them up too. What Activision has confirmed:
- Run Double Weapon XP tokens. It is the one weapon tip Activision gives. The Campaign hands out two as completion rewards; see our MW4 Campaign rewards.
- Play the mode you are fastest in. Multiplayer and DMZ both level the gun, and the progress is shared between them.
- Use shared attachments. Levels whose reward is an attachment you already own are skipped with a Bonus Level Up, explained in our guide to unlocking attachments fast.
Activision has not published how much Weapon XP each level needs, so how many matches it takes to reach Military Camo 8 is not confirmed. Many players also try a Modern Warfare 4 bot lobby for weapon grinding against easier opponents.
What comes after Military Camos
Military Camos are the first step of a longer camo track. After them, each weapon has three Special Camos with kill challenges that open at set weapon levels. Activision’s examples:

Weapon Prestige and Military Camos
Entering Weapon Prestige resets a gun to Level 1, but Activision says camos on that weapon are kept. At launch, Infinity Ward’s Trello board lists an open issue where Military Camos and Apex attachments relock after prestiging a weapon. Until that card is marked fixed, think twice before you prestige a gun whose Military Camos you want to keep. How Weapon Prestige works is in our MW4 Weapon Prestige guide.

How many Military Camos are there in MW4?
Eight per weapon, named Military Camo 1 to Military Camo 8.
How do you unlock Military Camos in MW4?
By levelling the weapon. Each one unlocks at a set weapon level, with no kill challenge.
What level is the last Military Camo on the Han 86?
Weapon Level 65, out of a Max Level of 72.
Are Military Camo levels the same for every gun?
No. Activision says they vary by weapon and take each gun’s Max Level into account. Only the Han 86 levels are published.
Do DMZ kills count for Military Camos?
Yes. Weapon XP from DMZ levels the gun the same way Multiplayer does, and the progress is shared.
Do you lose Military Camos when you prestige a weapon?
Activision says camos are kept, but a launch issue on Infinity Ward’s Trello board reports Military Camos relocking after Weapon Prestige. A fix is not confirmed.
