Where do I find my Steam ID and profile link?

Steam display names change freely and are not unique, so we ask for something that cannot be confused: your profile link or your friend code.

Profile link (most reliable)

  1. In the Steam client, click your name at the top and choose View my profile.
  2. Right-click the page and choose Copy Page URL.

You will get either steamcommunity.com/id/yourname or steamcommunity.com/profiles/7656119…. Either works — paste the whole thing.

Copy the whole URL rather than retyping the name — it is the part that cannot be duplicated.

Friend code

Open Friends → Add a Friend. Your friend code is the short number shown at the top of that screen. It is quicker to type than a URL and does the same job.

Watch out for

  • A display name on its own is not enough. Thousands of accounts can share it.
  • Private profiles block friend requests. If yours is private, set it to public until the delivery is done.
  • Some deliveries need the Steam Guard waiting period to have passed. A brand-new account or a recently changed password can block trading for several days — that is Valve’s rule, not ours.
