MW4 Known Issues: Prestige Relock, DMZ and Xbox Bugs

The main MW4 known issues at launch, per Infinity Ward’s official Trello board: a Weapon Prestige bug that relocks Military Camos and Apex attachments, Xbox players blocked by their Microsoft account device limit, “Update Requires Restart” prompts from connection timeouts, DLSS disabled with the VRRT Denoiser, and four open DMZ bugs, including one that blocks Operator Prestige.

Everything below comes from Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 4 Trello board, which the launch patch notes name as the place live issues are tracked. We checked the board on October 23, 2026; cards move to Resolved as fixes land, so check it before you change anything.

MW4 known issues at launch: quick list

Weapon Prestige bug: camos and Apex attachments relock

Infinity Ward is investigating an issue where Military Camos and Apex attachments relock after you prestige a weapon. The Weapon Prestige menu also wrongly says Apex access will be lost. Activision’s own rules say the opposite: entering Weapon Prestige keeps Apex attachments, Blueprint attachments and camos on that weapon, as explained in our MW4 Weapon Prestige guide.

Until the card moves to Resolved, the safe choice is to hold off on prestiging any gun whose Military Camos or Apex attachment you want to keep. Can’t launch MW4 or stuck connecting

Three launch issues stop people getting into a match:

• Xbox device limit. Some Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC players cannot access MW4 because their Microsoft account has reached its device limit. Infinity Ward points to Microsoft’s manage devices page, where you can remove old devices.
• “Update Requires Restart”. Some players get this prompt because of connection timeouts. Infinity Ward says it is monitoring and plans to address it in an upcoming patch; it has not posted a workaround.
• Server problems. If you are stuck connecting to online services, check the Activision Online Services status page linked from the Trello board before changing settings, and follow @CODUpdates on X for outages.

Activision has not published a launch-day fix list for connection errors beyond these cards, so we have not added unofficial fixes here.

PC: DLSS and the VRRT Denoiser

On PC, resolution scaling with NVIDIA DLSS is turned off while the VRRT Denoiser is enabled, because the combination caused visual artifacts. Infinity Ward’s Trello card calls this a temporary restriction and says it is working with NVIDIA to re-enable both together in an upcoming patch.

DMZ known issues and the Operator Prestige workaround

DMZ has the longest list, partly because it has been in Early Access since October 20. Four issues are still open:

• Operator Prestige blocked. Some players cannot enter Prestige on their Active Duty Operators. Infinity Ward’s workaround: complete the Operator Prestige requirement with rare (blue) weapons that have only three attachment slots and have never had four or more attachments on them.
• Free Loadout with no weapons. Using the Free Loadout can drop you into a match unarmed.
• DMZ Cash charged for cosmetics. Applying some camos or reticles in the DMZ Gunsmith can deduct DMZ Cash.
• Backstabs on AI. AI enemies do not count as Backstab targets for challenges.

MW4 issues already fixed

These cards moved to Resolved before launch, and most also appear in the MW4 launch patch notes:

• Error opening the Dog Tag Case at the DMZ FOB.
• DMZ disconnects: a protection fix keeps your starting equipment and progression, but not loot collected in that match.
• Crash when breaching the door in the DMZ mission Breaking New Ground.
• DMZ Orders and deployment blocked for players who sold starting equipment or dismissed their Active Duty Operator on their first FOB visit.
• Some Xbox PC players unable to play Campaign Early Access.
