To level up fast in MW4, stack the XP sources Activision has confirmed: finish all three Daily Challenges each day for the bonus, reroll the one that does not suit you, and run Double XP tokens, which Call of Duty says now only tick down in game time. DMZ XP also counts toward your 1–55 Player Level, so time in DMZ is not wasted.
Modern Warfare 4 has 55 Player Levels, from Private I to Commander, and the last weapon unlocks at Level 55. Everything below comes from Activision’s progression and Prestige post of October 19, 2026, unless we say otherwise. If you would rather skip the climb, our MW4 leveling services cover Level 1 to 55.
Where MW4 XP comes from
Activision lists four ways to earn Player XP: playing matches, eliminating enemies, playing the objective and completing challenges. It has not published how much XP each one pays, so nobody can say yet which mode is fastest per hour. What is confirmed is where XP counts:

The link only runs one way. Multiplayer and Warzone XP does not raise your DMZ Level. Whether XP earned during the DMZ Early Access window carries into launch has not been confirmed, as our DMZ Early Access guide explains.
Daily Challenges: the confirmed XP bonus
Daily Challenges are the one XP source Activision singles out as a speed-up. You get three in Multiplayer each day, each pays XP, and finishing all three adds what Activision calls “a hefty XP bonus”. Warzone gets its own set of Daily Challenges from Season 1.
- Open Career, then Challenges, before your first match of the day.
- Check which three challenges you have.
- Use your one daily reroll on the challenge that fits your loadout worst. A new one replaces it.
- Play until all three are done to collect the completion bonus.
Only one challenge can be rerolled per day, so spend it on the one that would force you onto a gun or mode you do not play. In Activision’s pre-launch screenshot below, each challenge pays 2,500 XP and the bonus for completing all three pays 8,000 XP. Final launch values are not confirmed.

Double XP tokens in MW4: what changed
MW4 changes how Double XP tokens count down. Call of Duty’s official X account said on September 28 that “tokens will count down in game time”, as Insider Gaming reported. In earlier games the timer kept running in menus and lobbies. In MW4 it only runs while you are in a match.
That means you can activate a token and play at your own pace without losing minutes between games. The tokens you can collect before or at launch:
- Black Ops 7 and Warzone tokens you already own. The same post said existing tokens “will be usable starting in Modern Warfare 4”. Our Black Ops 7 carry-forward guide covers what else moves over.
- Campaign rewards. Activision’s campaign launch post lists three Double XP tokens and two Double Weapon XP tokens among the campaign rewards. Our MW4 campaign rewards list shows which missions give them.
- Monster Energy codes. Activision’s Monster Energy promotion page caps 2XP at 40 hours of each token type per account across all promotions combined, not just Monster, and limits use to one hour of each type per day. Our MW4 Monster Energy guide covers the full reward ladder.
Activision has not announced a community-wide Double XP weekend for launch as of October 20.
How to level up weapons fast in MW4
Weapon XP is a separate track from Player XP. Each gun levels up on its own, and Activision’s progression post recommends activating Double Weapon XP tokens throughout the weapon leveling process. Two changes in MW4 also make later guns quicker:
- Attachments unlock once. An attachment earned on one gun is available on every gun that can use it.
- Bonus Level Up. If a weapon level would award an attachment you already own, you skip that level. Activision’s weapons post calls this “Weapon Progression Speed”.
In practice, the more guns you have already leveled, the fewer levels each new one needs. Max weapon levels range from 37 on the .50 GS pistol to 75 on the KG-7 Vulcan sniper. Our MW4 weapon unlock levels table lists the number for all 33 weapons.
What happens after Level 55
After completing Level 55 you choose a Prestige track, and the choice affects how fast the next run goes. Classic Prestige resets your level unlocks but gives a 20% XP boost, one Permanent Unlock Token and extra cosmetics. Regular Prestige keeps all your unlocks, without the boost.
There are 10 Prestige levels and 1,000 Prestige Master levels. If you plan to climb them, note that Classic Prestige offers a confirmed 20% XP boost; Activision has not said whether it stacks across Prestige levels. Our Classic vs Regular Prestige guide compares the two in full.

What is the max level in MW4?
Player Level 55 (Commander), followed by 10 Prestige levels and 1,000 Prestige Master levels.
Do Black Ops 7 Double XP tokens work in MW4?
According to Insider Gaming’s report quoting @CallofDuty, yes: existing tokens “will be usable starting in Modern Warfare 4.”
Do MW4 Double XP tokens run out in the menu?
According to Insider Gaming’s report quoting @CallofDuty, no: tokens “will count down in game time”, so the timer should only run during matches.
Does DMZ XP count toward my MW4 level?
Yes. DMZ XP counts toward the 1–55 Player Level as well as the DMZ Level. Multiplayer XP does not count toward the DMZ Level.
Is there Double XP for the MW4 launch weekend?
Not confirmed. Activision had not announced a community-wide Double XP event as of October 20.
Which game mode gives the most XP in MW4?
Not confirmed. Activision has not published XP values per mode, and the game is not out until October 23.
