The free Double XP tokens in Modern Warfare 4 so far come from three places: Campaign completion rewards (three Double XP and two Double Weapon XP), the Boot Camp event (two of each, 30 minutes, per Game Rant), and tokens you already own from Black Ops 7 or Warzone. Monster Energy codes are a separate promotional source, usually tied to buying cans.
This list collects every token source confirmed as of October 23, 2026, launch day, with free in-game sources kept apart from promotions. Where a source is a media report rather than an Activision post, it says so. How tokens fit into the wider levelling grind is in our guide to levelling up fast in MW4.
Every MW4 Double XP token source so far
| Source | Double XP | Double Weapon XP | Length | Source type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Campaign completion rewards | 3 | 2 | Not published | Official |
| Boot Camp event (to November 6) | 2 | 2 | 30 minutes each | Media (Game Rant) |
| Tokens from Black Ops 7 / Warzone | Whatever you have banked | As owned | Official social post, via media | |
| Monster Energy codes (promotion, not free in-game) | Up to 40 hours of each type per account | Max 1 hour of each type per day | Official (Activision Support) | |
That makes nine free tokens you can earn inside MW4 itself, on top of anything banked. Monster codes are counted separately because they come from a retail promotion with its own terms. If you would rather not wait for free ones, our MW4 Double XP token codes include 60-minute Double XP and Double Weapon XP tokens.

Activision’s Campaign Early Access post of October 16 lists 16 completion rewards, including three Double XP tokens and two Double Weapon XP tokens. They become usable in Multiplayer and DMZ from launch. Activision has not said how long each one lasts. Which mission gives which reward is in our MW4 Campaign rewards list.

Boot Camp event: 4 tokens until November 6
The Boot Camp event, Modern Warfare 4’s first event, runs until November 6. According to Game Rant’s October 22 guide, four of its nine challenges give tokens:
- Lethal Operator (kill 20 enemies in DMZ): 30-minute Double XP token.
- Kill Block (10 Operator headshot kills in Kill Block): 30-minute Double XP token.
- Get Printing (print 5 items at the DMZ 3D Printer): 30-minute Double Weapon XP token.
- Combat Outpost (5 Operator kills with vehicles in Combat Outpost): 30-minute Double Weapon XP token.

All nine challenges and the F.N.G. blueprint for finishing them are in our MW4 Boot Camp event guide.
Tokens from Black Ops 7, and Monster Energy codes
The official Call of Duty account on X said on September 28 that existing tokens “will be usable starting in Modern Warfare 4”, as Insider Gaming reported. Unused Black Ops 7 and Warzone tokens therefore carry over; our Black Ops 7 carry-forward guide covers what else moves.
Monster Energy codes are a promotional source rather than a free in-game one: the codes come with Monster’s MW4 promotion, which may require buying participating products and has its own eligibility rules by region, so check the promotion terms before counting on them. Activision Support’s promotion page sets two limits that apply across every promotion combined: 40 hours of each 2XP token type per account, and no more than one hour of each type used per day. The full reward ladder is in our MW4 Monster Energy rewards guide.
How MW4 Double XP tokens count down
The same September 28 post said MW4 tokens “will count down in game time”. In earlier games the timer kept running in menus and lobbies; in MW4 it should only run while you are in a match. That makes it safe to activate a token, then take a break between games.
Two practical points follow from what Activision has published:
- Weapon XP tokens pair with Weapon XP sources. Activision’s only weapon tip is to run Double Weapon XP throughout the weapon levelling process. Shared attachments speed that up further, as explained in how to unlock attachments fast in MW4.
- Do Daily Challenges alongside. Three Daily Challenges plus a completion bonus pay extra Player XP every day; Activision’s pre-launch screenshot shows 2,500 XP each and an 8,000 XP bonus. Whether a Double XP token also doubles those challenge payouts is not confirmed.

Activision had not announced a community-wide Double XP weekend for launch as of October 23. Weekly Challenges are not in Season 1; Infinity Ward is running events instead, and whether future events include tokens is not confirmed.
